obviously the case they send it back in is cool as fuck but it seems pointless unless they grade it at a 10

Collectible grading is all a scam.

9's are pretty good too. Just go to a site that will show you what to look for. If you think it meets the criteria for a 10 send it in. Really look at it though. Centering is a big thing and the backs tend to have scuff marks that will drop it down. if you see any of that do not grade it.

I hope mine are 9 or 10s atleast. I always sleeve immediately after opening the pack and keep the cards in an area with low humidity. So centering would be the most of my worries.

They mean it about the grading.

They'll get jeweler's loops and investigate every microscopic scratch.

yeah... its not about how you handled it. Its factory defects, corners are also often messed up. Lots of production lines on cards as well. All will drive it down.

Also grading is not that expensive. If you have a card that is $100 or so without a grade then send it in. its like $25 to grade it, so you will still get a return on it, and you might get $125 on it even with an 8 rating. Do not send in anything less though. you take the chance of losing money

I wanted to grade one of my fav cards to keep as a memento and maybe grade a couple of other graded ones in my "stash".
