Cus machines break and have issues?

Machine prolly down or there's not enough people to actually come help if someone messes up or needs help

The machines get a state-mandated 15 minute break and 30 minute lunch every 8 hour shift like everyone else

They're not down. It's a whole section of the things that are just not turned on.

They have to have an employee watching in case someone needs help so during the quieter hours to save on hours they close half of them down.

Except they do because of people buying shit they shouldnt be buying at them or things with age restrictions. Not to mention people scamming the system by not scanning shit or scanning a different barcode.

Then the employees they have can check on that stuff. No reason to bottleneck customers who should be able to walk through self-check in 30 seconds.

Then they would be bottlenecked at regular registers. And you still need to have someone assist people, fix issues with the machines, call for more cash/coinage or receipt paper. The machines arent that damn self reliant that you dont have a worker there.

There are still people working lol. They can fix issues as they arise. That doesn't justify closing off 75% of the machines.

The purpose of the machines is to hire limited staff. The idea that there needs to be a set number of employees standing around to scan IDs for alcohol purchases is asinine. This takes 10 seconds. Any single employee can cover many machines at once.

It's easy to pay attention to others when standing in line bc only a handful of the self-check machines are open. That's why I'm complaining. This line does not need to exist.

I know Walmart got rid of most of its cashier-based checkouts in favor of self-checks, and then doesn't utilize 75% of the new self-check stations.

Which is dumb and annoying as a customer.

more often they only have 1 checker and only take 20 items or less.
doesn't help me when i have to do self checkout (takes alot longer).

Just googled why Walmart closes all the SCO at night. Theft is the big reason it seems.

Gentle reminder that not all Walmarts are the same.

Yours might just be particularly crappy.

I like when stores have half the machines opened up for maintenance with no one actually doing any maintenance on them. Feel like I'm getting a peek behind the wizard's curtain.
