They should.

They should have chairs, they should have stools, they should have fatigue mats, they should have whatever else they need so they can do their job comfortably.

They absolutely should have something.

I'd love a stool at least. Already walk 45min to work, stand in the same place for 8 hours. Sometimes don't even get a break.

It should be a stool chair. So it looks like you are at about the same level, but have have a back on the seat.

I've had jobs tell me I couldn't drink or eat in front of customers, whether I'm off the clock or not.
Outdated bullshit.

Give the people chairs.

If they want them. I mean they gotta be there for hours scanning shit. Why not?

owner of the drug store i worked at in hs/college loved to say "if you've got time to lean, you've got time to clean, and if you've got time to sit, that means you ain't doing shit.

That is literally their job, to stand there. That's tough when you have to stay in the same damn place and you can't even walk around.

It's fucking cruel to make them stand all day.

If the register and scanner require you to stand, then they can just *gasp* stand up when they need to scan a bigger item.

You seem to be under this weird dichotomy where you can either stand all day or sit all day, and there can be no gray zones whatsoever. Like, once a chair is introduced, everyone that needs a big item picked up and scanned is just fucked.

That's not actually how reality works...

Having worked as one in both stores that have chairs and stores that don't, I actually prefer not having them.

It would be nice to sit down between customers, but standing while actually serving is much more convenient than doing it while sitting. "Just stand anyway" doesn't really work because the chair gets in the way, and the counter is likely set up for sitting height rather than standing height.

The reality though is the fact that regardless of a chair or not generally as a cashier you would be in a constant state of working which may require standing for long periods of time. Hell by this logic any retail worker should have chairs in general because other positions exist where they are standing/walking

I mean no? Plus people who gave experience in retail will tell you that they may or my not want a chair.

If anything the big thing for cashiers would be just giving them more short breaks if 10-15 to get off their feet or rotate them out. Still doesnt really change the fact that retail jobs tend to be mostly on your feet standing or walking.
