Ive said it before and countless others have too, Make. Cops. Pay. For. Lawsuits. With. Their. Pension. If they arent in the wrong they wont lose anything. Right now these are being paid for by YOUR MONEY. You pay higher taxes because of ccops like these.
Youd see an overnight cleanup of the police force itd be like magic.

Watch our resident cops come in and try argue against this. If so, makes you wonder what they been doing they scared of getting sued for...

not a bad idea, but tangential at best. the focus should be on reducing the number of cops and the budget of the police department.

The judge should just let the guy suplex a train on top of them.

So what happens in high crime areas then?

The short version is the resources taken away from police forces are rolled into social services instead, who have a *much* better track record of reducing crime by, y'know, actually rehabilitating people so that they're not in situations where they feel like crime is a solution to their problems. Mental health counselling and decent paying job training can do wonders for a "high crime area"

EDIT: And for the criminals who are just absolutely menaces who cannot be helped? That's why you keep *some* police. Society needs more healers than guardians. especially guardians who use their authority abusively.

In a perfect world I would agree with this. I just dont see how social service workers are any kind of replacement for the kinds of situations police usually deal with. Has it ever been tried anywhere?

You can't see ANY use for social service workers/mental health professionals for the "kinds of situations police usually deal with"? Like.. NONE?

And yes it has, which is why that poster said it's been shown to decrease crime

What are they going to do? Respond to a domestic violence call? An active shooter? A robbery?

I can see them dealing with things like drug possession instead of police just arresting the person.

defunding is the first step towards abolition. that is what it is. that is what it always has been and always will be. the job of the police isn't protecting people; it's maintaining the status quo.

you're drastically overestimating the effectiveness of the police in dealing with those crimes.

1. Yes they can reapond to domestic violence.
2. Cops don't even know what to do with active shooters and those end in suicide because cops suck so that is laughable to bring up
3. Robberies aren't stoppes by cops. They are usually found later after the fact but items rarely recovered. A gas stattion clerk is better at chasing off robbers than cops.

Just abolish all police, jails, prisons and the entire criminal justice system. Let everyone sort out their own differences. The state should have the power to fine or imprison the people.

this point is worth responding to in particular, because cops generally do jack shit for domestic violence calls, and in fact they are perpetrators of domestic violence much more frequently than the general population.

2. Cops don't even know what to do with active shooters and those end in suicide because cops suck so that is laughable to bring up
this is at least partly due to the vast majority of mass shooters in the US being fascists and cops largely being sympathetic to fascism, if not outright fascists themselves

A) They very well could deescalate domestic violence without using force - police hostage negotiators (when available) are somewhat in this role.
B) You said "kinds of situations police usually deal with" these are NOT the most common three situations police deal with, so why did you bring them up?
