I know nothing about them but it sounds like you can mess a lot of stuff up that affects the next games...

While i understand this, its not fun to do. Like why not just play a game thats fun that doesnt require this?

No, just play it and see how it all turns out. Following a guide is basically having someone else play the game for you. The choices you make and long term repercussions is half the fun.

I'm currently playing through the Legendary Edition, I'm on ME3. It's been amazing playing these again, 1st time since they all first released. I didn't remember much of anything.

You won't know the differences until you replay the game anyways. Don't sweat it too much, just make decisions based on what you want to do and see how it plays out. That's what makes it so fun.

I played as a Paragon in all 3 when I originally played them, so I'm playing as a Renegade in all 3 this time.

There's no game breaking choice, so don't worry there TC. At worst, things might not be as optimal as you'd like it to be. Just play like I did on the first playthrough of the series; make the choices and reactions the way you think YOU yourself would in that situation. And if it turns out you love the game, then making optimal choices will give you an excuse to do a second run. If you don't or just don't want to play through again, at least you come out of it with your own unique experience.

This is a backlog game ive had for a while after some holiday sale for under $20. I skipped them originally and said if there was ever a collection id get it on sale with no intention of there ever being a collection.

I finally did a full playthrough last year and it was a great run. I initially played it when the first came out and lost my save so I never went back through because the vehicle you use in the first sucked. They improved that in the remaster though and you should just go through having fun.

i don't think the first one has any real game breaking things

the second can have some people die by making the wrong choices, but they're mostly pretty obvious

I tried the first Mass Effect and wasn't really enjoying the gameplay. Maybe the second one is much better or the game is not for me.

The gameplay and presentation are infinitely better in 2 and 3 than 1

Imo the main story is best in 1, but everything else is better in 2 and 3.

2 in particular has amazing cast, 3 has amazing gameplay.

All 3 are great in their own way.

You can't really "mess anything up" as far as the story is concerned, and any decision with lasting plot-related consequences makes it incredibly obvious. Though to make the game "easier" you'll want to stick to either Paragon or Renegade rather than alternate between them. Quite a few fun charm/speech options that depend on them, but your score won't be high enough if you don't commit.

If you finish ME1 it carries over your karma to ME2 as a huge bonus, which trivializes some of the speech checks there.

IIRC the only ways you might accidentally fuck yourself are (minor spoilers for "points of no return") during a certain tense argument in ME1. (Happens when you visit the planet that sends you a distress call. Is the "fourth" major mission after you leave the Citadel)

and then in ME2 you generally want to do all the character loyalty missions before you do the "acquire IFF" mission.

Neither of these break the game or affect the overall story, mind you, but if you mess them up you might not be happy with yourself.

I did mess up one thing though
I don't remember why, but for some reason i did not recruit Wrex on my first go.
Something about Giant Lizard man didn't feel right so i denied him.

I regretted that dearly later
