Some YouTube cooking channels inspired me, so I bought a mortar and pestle for future use. The set came with some instructions for seasoning them. In short, it was enjoyable even though the resulting mess was inedible (it wasn't supposed to be).

I haven't done any real cooking in ages, but I feel really good about this. I have a cookbook coming from Thailand (shipping cost a fortune) that features some curries. I'm excited to see what recipes I can ruin.

I'm curious, how do you season it? Salt?

The steps included said to rinse the mortar and pestle (no soap), let it air dry, and then to crush rice into powder over and over until the rice stays white (gets rid of debris left over from manufacturing). Then it said to mash garlic, then add cumin, salt, and pepper, and grind that together. Then clean it again and let it air dry.

EDIT: This is an example.
