When I learned that 3 people were dead and 5 injured, the first thought that I had was "that's not too bad, I was expecting worse"

I remember being totally shocked when columbine happened back when I was a kid.

Now it's literally like "oh shit another one."

Same here...Uvalde didn't even get talked about as much locally, unlike what some "celebrity " just said...and I'm in Texas.

I thought the exact same thing when I heard about this this morning.
I had zero reaction and the only thing that went through my mind was This is what is wanted. and I turned off the radio.

You can't grieve every day. If a shooting takes place every day, it's eventually going to exceed your potential for mourning. It doesn't make you heartless. It just means you're tired of dropping everything to reflect on tragedy.

Its mainly because its a fight weve failed time and time before. Our only hope is voting in leaders who do care. Theres nothing we can do about it.

When Sandy Hook happened and still nothing was done to address the issue, it showed that this country values guns more than the lives of children and will keep fighting to maintain the status quo.

The blood is on the hands of those that have the ability to make changes and refuse to do so.
Our hands are clean and my conscience is clear. I do, and will continue feel bad for the victims and the families of those that have been slaughtered and will continue to be slaughtered.
The fact that the slaughter will continue is a 100% certainty.

Yeah, I don't even read about most of them anymore. I just see the headline, shake my head, then move on.

It always stresses me out because schools seem to be such a frequent target for these shootings. As I have two younger sisters, I am always scared about the prospect of just one sick classmate doing it at their schools.

The Uvdale one hit me pretty hard because I have two nieces who live in Schertz which is relatively close.

Other than that Im in the same boat. Nothing is going to change. Even if Biden came out tomorrow and enacted Australia level gun control, this would still happen because when it all comes down to it, its not really a gun issue as much as a mental health issue, and the USs control of that is even worse than guns.

The Uvalde one was pretty disturbing for me. But it's fucked up to think that's the new standard of what it'll take to really shock me about U.S. gun violence.

Ever since Uvalde they feel like they just run together. People refer to them by where they happened and my brain doesn't even differentiate them

Last I read we were at 67 mass shootings this year in this nation. "Small" price for freedom?

That's also only mass shootings. I don't even want to look up the individual firearm death numbers.

I have a 10-year-old son who I drive to school every morning, and lately his most frequent topic of conversation on those rides is how ineffective he thinks the school shooter procedures are. Yesterday he pointed out the parts of the fence that someone could jump over. Today he told me that the closet is the first place a shooter would look so why do they have to hide in there. I told him it's so you dont get shot through the window. It's fucking depressing.

I just shrug and carry on these days when hearing that America has had it's daily mass shooting, or weekly room of school children gunned down.

I don't like it, hate it even, but getting myself sad over something another country refuses to change is ultimately no good for my own mental health.

It's awful and terrible and it should never happen, but it's going to and I can't do anything to change it as a foreigner so I just no longer give it much, if any, attention.

Really sad these are the things a 10 year old is thinking about. When I was 10, I couldn't even conceptualize shooting defenses and where is the best place I could hide vs where would a shooter look first.

I cant believe you just made me go to Fox News, I saw two articles like that before news about the shooting.

Several popular pundits on the right wing in America are angrier at the people upset at shootings than they are at the shooter.

At least not headlines. They were all fluff pieces about how much dems and woke suck and Republicans/Christians are awesome. There wasn't one God damn thing about the shooting on the front page.
