Literally kidnapping and stealing the bending away from people. Pretty much raping them while hiding and pretending to be a non-bender

How was Amon wrong? He was absolutely correct in his beliefs, so much so that the entire governing system of Republic City was overwritten and they tossed out their council of benders and elected a non-bending president.

how was he wrong? Idk seems wrong to steal the bending power of others while also being a bender. Dude was a hypocrite with a god complex like Light Yagami

That's Shaun's point. Amon had a legitimate grievance, but (EDIT:) does something completely unjustifiable about it.

His main grievance was that the benders used their powers thoughtlessly without any care to who they were hurting, and that all wars can trace their origins to bending, and that non-benders are essentially have their lives and their livelihoods tied to the capricious whims of benders - and he was absolutely right. Amon viewed benders as people that needed to have their toys taken away, and he had the power to do so. Who gives a shit if the mob boss that terrorized his neighborhood lost his main weapon of terror and oppression? Who cares if the guy that can afford a more cushy lifestyle than all of his neighbors cause the spirits granted him the literal capability to throw lightning from his fingertips and nobody else could now has to work and scrounge like everyone else? What, you have to live my life for 5 minutes and it makes you want to jump off a cliff, Avatar? Well fuck you too then!

I think the idea is many of these villains have a core belief or goal that is actually justifiable, but because they are not the protagonist, the writers feel obligated to saddle them with some super evil dealings and decisions. And then the resolution comes across as a compromise, or worse, the villains goal is rejected due to association with them.
