Those ads you see on tv where it makes Jesus sound kinda liberal. Turns out, they are made by a conservative group with ties to the Far Right. They are trying to entice liberals into dabbling in religion and then slowly corrupt them into conservatives

They're desperate in trying to replenish their ranks now that more youths are disillusioned with organized religion.

My surprised face is surprised.

They should make ads of Jesus supporting trans people and see what happens

I agree that whatever is going on here is pretty shady, but dont act like this entire topic isnt people calling religious people stupid, lying, immoral, etc.

And saying Jesus was actually a communist is pretty common argument online from left wingers (its generally a gotcha type argument but still), and it interests me because it shows how much internet atheism revolves around Christianity. There are so many religions out there and internet atheists tend to be anti-Christian, I dont think thats a coincidence. I think they grew up Christian but bad experience(s) led them to be not only atheist but also anti-Christian. And the problem with that is their views are clouded by bias.

You know what else is a bad argument? "Curious why atheists have a bigger problem with the main religion, in their country that they see everywhere, than one of the few other big world religions or some random small one"

And I love the story of Jesus. Don't know if we should call him communist, but nothing he does in the Gospels sounds like what the religious right wants.

That is the impression I get from reading topics like this. I didnt say that all atheists were formally religious, but topics like this clearly show that a large portion of internet atheists, especially vocal ones, are formerly religious. Are you going to deny that too or can you at least agree with that? And the end result is most topics about religion quickly turn into toxic waste dumps. I dont feel like going back and forth in this topic so I will write down everything that got an eye raise from me.

Actually that answers everything for me. Some people are treating this as if its a chess game while my belief is that religion and politics are inherently separate.

And yes the creators of this commercial are probably doing that too, but if the commercial is as simple as a gospel quote with the line He Gets Ys, then I would argue that some of things said in this topic are much worse that commercial could ever be.

Thats why I dont like posting in topics like this tbh. I love discussing religion but most debates about religion on here end up being like 5 atheists vs. 1 religious person, if that.
