I wanted to dislike this movie because ugh Ben Affleck, but its a star studded cast with JK Simmons, Jeffrey tambor, John Lithgow, even the punisher.

Ben Affleck plays an autistic accountant who's good looking and also an expert assassin with genius level intellect and has girls like Anna Kendrick falling for him instantly despite his being autistic and a man of few words. I should note this came out the same year he played batman so it felt like there's mild overlap with how he plays a dude who can do damn near anything, killing bad guys left and right, cooking the books of mobsters with his accounting powers by day and killing the ones who try to screw him at night.

But the movie is just... really good, really entertaining. There are some contrived twists, but it's a simple story presented with such immaculate performances that I ended up really enjoying it even up to the end with the twist

I found it interesting that Anna Kendrick was still playing an intern type for nearly a decade, although she does have a young face so its not a big deal.

There's even a training scene with him and his brother as kids that their military dad set up, where they're fighting a big burly guy. It felt like batman begins almost.

Honestly felt bad for him as a kid and the mother and even the dad, who in his own army way wanted to help his autistic son, and too proud to accept so called "professional help" or even acknowledge that his son is different or has a problem.

Still, do you think what the dad did was right? And was the mother justified in walking away?

Why would you want to dislike it bc Affleck? Ben has been cool for a while now.

If you had asked me 10 years ago I would have said yeah Ben has been really good and its weird but I think I like him. But tahani puts it best:

He was getting really good traction with gone baby gone, the town, gone girl, Argo... then bam, it was "I read comics guys I wanna be batman" and he soured me on him again.

About this, I actually thought the equalizer was the John wick clone because it came out in the same year as John wick and also featured a man with a special set of skills on a crusade against bad guys he feels wronged him

I dont quite get the theme of this one, it doesn't really show if the dad was in the right for training the boy and that psychologists are a bunch of phooey

I have some news regarding a syndicated TV show running from 1985 to 1989.

yea, The Accountant was surprisingly enjoyable.

I was really expecting it to be a forgettable action movie, but it ended up being pretty good.

the Equalizer movie came out before John Wick that year, and like someone said, it was based on a show.

I thought it was pretty good

The mini-twist with the jigsaw puzzle when he's an adolescent... That hit me in the feels. I'm not even sure why, but in that single moment I feel like I instantly understood his character.

I think that was the high point and it was a gradual decline after that, but still the movie was really good overall and I would very much recommend it.

It's been a while, what part do you mean?

I only remember that he would do them with the picture down.

yeah, that exactly Drizzt

In a way I could understand that. Just the fact that he must have focused that much on the shapes of the pieces vs. the pictures...

and in my case, working backwards. Any time I'm looking at a maze sort of puzzle (and a lot of types of puzzles in general), I'm looking at what to do last to figure them out, and I work my way back.
