I guess it was kinda after my time like Pokemon and I'm an old head.

That game does look pretty sweet though, and I don't mean that I a trollish way. I like GOW style combat and the Infamous style of going evil or good.

But anyway as a person in my mid 30s would I even like a Harry Potter movie? I also read a decent amount too, should I go checkout a HP book at the library? Are the books significantly better than the movies for an adult(my sister is a huge fan on Harry Potter and she's 7 years older than me but she's also an English teacher).

Anyway thanks for any advice/suggestions. Btw I've never been TOO big into fantasy like stuff like Lord of The Rings but I do like Sci Fi stuff, but as long a the story is good I don't get too hung up on the setting

Yeah exactly CE gonna CE

My two options I gave for checking out HP was either watching a movie on HBO max which I get for free or renting a library book which is also free. Neither of which are profiting anyone really.

I didn't say I was jumping for joy at the thought of paying $70 for a game(I never pay more than $30 for video games anyway, I always wait).

They're good popcorn movies for the most part. If anything they manage to make a fantasy world as believable as possible. Now as an adult you probably won't love them. First few movies are a bit of a thriller/detective story trying to figure whos behind the bad stuff happening that class year.

Ok thanks. So not really worth reading the long books? I try to read for the last 2 hours of the night instead of staring at a phone or monitor because it helps my insomnia, and I don't like reading disturbing things before bed because it will make me have nightmares.

I think that anything PG rated will be ok. I'm just saying I like light reading before bedtime. I used to not be like this, but I checked out a Stephen King short story compilation that gave me one of the worst nightmares I've ever had.

Never read the books either, but I did enjoy a few of the movies.

First 2 HP movies feel like Home Alone movies thanks to Chris Columbus and John Williams. 3rd movie is actually a really amazing film thanks to Alfonso Cuarn and easily the best one. The 4th movie is decent, but unless you read the books there's little reason to watch the rest.

Hell yeah I love Home Alone, easily a top 5 Christmas film. That is a great way to convince me to start it up btw.

I love how these shit posters can't help themselves but to think I'm lying about never seeing a Harry Potter movie.

I've also never seen a Lord of The Rings movie, despite loving Dead Alive by Peter Jackson and liking the Hobbit book and animated film when required to read/watch it in HS.

It's not so much having never seen a HP movie as it is having a brand new account on a board where pretty much every single brand new account is an alt of someone that wants to troll or got banned for trolling/posting offensive things.
Add that your topic is about the current hottest issue here and it's easy to see why people are reacting the way they are.

I mean you can mass mark me for asking if Harry Potter would actually be good to someone who missed it when the movies and books were hyped up but suddenly has interest when a critically acclaimed game comes out even though I expressed zero interest in buying the game until the devs are making pennies off of it. I guess that makes sense /s

Yeah but I never said I was spending a penny on Hogwarts, at least not until it is a bargain bin game.

It would be one thing if I made an account and I was like "have you played the new Hogwarts? 10/10 game! I never watched or read a HP book in my life but I'm LOVING this game!". That is trolling.

Asking if a 30 something year old male would actually enjoy a really long book or movie before I try to watch it is not an unreasonable question.

Yeah I just didn't wanna dive into the movies and then figure out later I was fucking up and that the books are way better.

And I also have ADHD pretty badly so my mind will wander for like 3 pages and then I have to go back. It happens with movies too sometimes but not as often as I am more of a visual learner.

I also like audiobooks but I'm picky about narrators.

Ok. I'll give the first movie a go. If I like it I will likely go check out the second book and see if I prefer reading or live action better.

Thanks the advice and not just shit posting and assuming I have no interest in this, I actually worked in a book store from 2004-2007 and I worked two midnight HP releases and they were fucking crazy. I just only read non fiction and shit like Dean Koontz back then so I never checked them out, but there were plenty of adults that stood in line for hours those nights to buy a $30 hardcover. We never had midnight releases for any other book, and it was very few kids that showed up for these.

It was truly a big deal, we couldn't even open the totes with the books in them until that night because of spoilers. They were padlocked LMAO.

It shouldn't matter. I should be able to ask if Harry Potter books/movies are worth a damn without folks being like "new user alert!".

People should be able to express their opinions the most popular literature to come out in the last few decades without reeing out over whose alt someone is. Like I said before, it would be different if I said I bought Hogwarts despite never having any interest in HP before, or if I came in stated my undying support for JK Rowling.

I watched the first three movies with my dad a couple of years ago. Definitely falls into the "young adult" target audience like Hunger Games and such, but it's...fine, I guess. I never got into the whole "school of magic" thing, so it wasn't for me, but it's got some moments that are cool enough. I hear from a lot of people that the movies get more exciting the further you go, but it didn't hold me enough to get me to the fourth or beyond.

edit: I am currently playing Hogwarts Legacy and really enjoying it. I am about 22 hours played and about 52% complete.

It's kinda weird. It starts as a children's story and evolves into a young adult story. But despite some decent attempts at tackling more mature themes in the later books, Rowling never really grows out of her child-oriented writing habits.

Biggest example is Snape, who, in the books, never stops being a fucking cartoon even after the world around him gets more serious. The character is pretty much entirely carried by Alan Rickman lol

Idk if an adult could really vibe with it without the associated nostalgia of being a kid and imagining themselves at Hogwarts, but it's not terrible. Id say the books are worth a read at least.
