I think it's unfair to get mad about Batman killing (unless you're morally opposed to it) because that wasn't an important part of his character until the Bruce Timm animated series which came later. Batman '89 was an adaptation of the 1940s Batman comics in which he killed and even used a gun. It's kind of like getting mad at Sonic 1 for not having the spin dash or Mario 1 for not having a flight power-up.

Even forgetting what came after, the part about the Joker was a bit confusing though. If you had ever seen reruns of the 1966 Batman, you knew from things like Batman meeting the Joker in a surf competition that he was not battling the man responsible for the deaths of his parents. I can see why the film thought it easier to connect the Joker more directly to Batman, but I will admit that it was a bit odd when matched against adaptations before and after.

Taking the audience along with the mystery of discovering who Batman was was really cool.

Of course, fans already wouldve known Bruce Wayne is the Batman, but the mystery>clues>revelation was really well-done. Also, the Dance with the devil in the moonlight or w/e line was great

Eh I got nothing to do tomorrow, I'll watch it again then. After that... ROBOCOP! two of my favorite movies from yesteryear.

I might throw in some Spaceballs to top the night off. Damn I might need to buy a lot of popcorn.

Batman only really killed for around twelve to sixteen issues in 1939 and early 1940; by the time Robin was introduced later in 1940 he had already basically stopped killing. You may have first heard of him having that code in BTAS, but it had been a thing for him for a long long time by that point.

That said I don't disagree that it's no problem for a different version of Batman to be different. The Adam West one you mention is quite different and silly and beloved in his own way. I'm a huge Batman fan and think many different versions are great. Batman 89' is still a good movie imo, I agree.

Its still really, really good. Biggest reason IMO is Jack Nicholson, he just eats up every possible moment and makes the movie shine.

Wouldn't call it perfect, but it's still my favorite Batman movie. There's some slow parts in it, but it's still overall great.

Jack is still the best Joker. I like the more traditional kind of Joker with the suit and the killer gag gadgets and who is a viscous killer, but also kind of a goofball. The mainline DC movies today go too far with the Ledger-esque Joker.

Yeah, they were fighting a pirate captain and Batman warned Robin to use the flat of their swords. It still wasn't the first thing that you think about when it comes to Batman's motivation the way that it is now. You would know better than I when it was canonized as his One Rule. Was that before the Burton movie came out? (Edit: Actually, yeah. I guess it was an important part of The Killing Joke which was before the Burton movie.)

Also, Adam West's Batman killed a few times in the 1966 movie. He accidentally killed some henchmen who had become combustible after being dehydrated and rehydrated. But there's also a scene where Bruce Wayne knocks a henchman into the waiting arms of an exploding octopus.

1966 > Lego > the rest > 1943 serial > 1949 serial

The 1943 serial is an openly-racist war propaganda series. The 1949 serial still manages to be worse than that.

Yeah ain't that the truth. Both Marvel and DC have continuity errors all over the place if you compare enough comics. Hundreds of writers over nearly a century, it's probably unavoidable.
