My neighbors growing up weren't allowed to read or watch anything that had "magic" in it. (Except Disney, because that's God's blindspot apparently.
Because magic is "devilry" meant to lead us astray.

That entire family turned out to be a giant fucked up mess.

Yeah, my mom was one of those Christians that banned Harry Potter because he's a wizard.

All her restrictions were annoying, and I eventually learned to just never talk about things I liked in case she'd decide they need to be banned.

Still salty about her banning Pokmon after the church came out against it. I never did get to play it with the other kids on the playground.

Yeah, I feel bad for them since I had to cut up my Pokmon cards and throw them away too. Doing it in private was bad enough, but in public is a special kind of crazy.

Did she ever show any regret over these actions, or is it something you've ever gotten a chance to discuss now that you're an adult?

As if lowly muggles could even put a wizard to death.

Fucking loved the absurdity of this documentary.

The worst part about this was I actually did participate in one of these camps when I was young. I grew up in a Southern Baptist community and our job was to go out into the city and recruit others to join our "Christian camps" to attempt to convert them. One of our talks was about Harry Potter and it started off like this.

Speaker: "So how many of you boys and girls plan on reading or watching Harry Potter?"

All the kids in the crowd: "Yeah!"

Speaker: "Well then you're all going to burn in hell for participating in that witchcraft."

Kids: *awkward silence*

Then the speaker goes on a heavy rant about why he can't understand why kids would prefer to read something Satanic as Harry Potter but not something wholesome and good like the Bible. It was a surreal experience and something I laugh with my childhood friends about.

Had this been the old testament that woman would be put to death too.

Yeah, we discussed it when I was older and she did apologize. She bought me Pokmon Platinum as a peace offering.

I do gotta say, it's ironic she bought you Platinum as the cover legendary of that game is frequently called Pokemon "Satan" and even looks a little demon-ish.

Lol, that is pretty funny. Yeah, things like Harry Potter were never allowed because of the "witchcraft," but she did moderate some with age.

My parents, specifically my father, had some very questionable parenting choices. I'll never forget coming from church and he had me round up all my action figures so we could burn them and release the demons that were trapped inside. Fuck man... I had the whole original TMNT set, van and all the characters.

There's a card game out there called Wizard that is pretty fun. The ultimate trump card is a "Wizard" while all the rest of the deck is a standard deck.

Anyway, my aunt loves the game, but she also talks a lot about how she really hates that it's called "Wizard" because it sounds like the occult and it goes against God.

I just wanna say "bro it's a card game stop"
