I have always gone by my middle name since birth. Anything else would feel weird.

My wifes family did this just to annoy local politicians.

She hated her birth first name so much she refused to tell me for a long time. I actually had to sit down and think about it what it was recently for some paperwork. Lol

I'd probably find it off-putting just because my surname isn't suited to it.

My last name is generally a girls first name. Lol

It was a military thing to call everyone by their last name, so that's what I was referred to for 4 years or so. I didn't really care because it was the same for everyone, but now if someone just started calling me by my last name, it would probably be weird.

In my career field, we all wear our last names on our chest and refer to each other by such or by "Rank, Last Name"

So I find it weird and awkward to be called by my first name

No, not really but it could be worse. I get more annoyed by people that refuse to call me by my nickname especially if they go by a nickname I use for them, lol.

In my high school class of 45 people, there were 7 of us that had the same first name, so we were almost always referred to by our last names to distinguish us. I more or less stopped responding to my first name after a while, since I would assume it was directed at someone else. My mother worked in the cafeteria, and even she would call me by my last name.

When I went to college, I pretty much had to relearn being called by my first name again. It was kind of a strange process.

Ive never been called by my last name, but I dont think Id like it.

I went by my last name and/or my nickname based on my last name for the majority of my life. I have a pretty rare last name over here, only about 80 people have this last name in a country of 10 million.
I didn't choose to be referred to as such, people just started doing so because of the rarity I suppose. But since my late 20s most people switched to my first name as I usually introduce myself with it as is customary.

My surname means that even as a sea cadet, I was instantly granted a nickname derived from it, so people have never called me by my surname.

I don't think I ever cared that much

Doesn't bother me. Had a close friend with the same first name, we went by our last names most of the time when hanging out. Well a shortened version of his last name.

Just a shortened version of my full name. Andy.

No thanks, most here couldnt even pronounce it right, Im lucky it they pronounce my first name correct but its still easy not to butcher.

I have Finnish names.

Only my brother calls me by my first name.

Yeah it took me a bit to get used to being called by my first name after I got out of the Army.

Only when there is someone else at work with the same first name is my last name used now.

I'd be pissed as fuck if anyone called me by my last name

I've been going by my last name since like the 4th grade, the only people that call me by my first name are family members.

I'm in the military so very few people use my first name.
