Was at Big Lot's today, and a couple came in, loaded up two carts, and just walked out.

I've heard about that, but this is my first time seeing it happen in the wild.

One time when Toys R Us was still around I legit probably scared the shit out of some shoplifters since they tend to use the fire exit. Heard that shit go off, ran to the door kicked that fucker open and they left in their car without the cart.

That would be cool as fuck to see a Discovery documentary where some shit head camera man is hiding in the racks at a store observing human behavior at a store from a distance. "Ohhhh this young female won't see the winter buying that amount of alcohol and Cheetos.... or will she?"

I took an opened toy I found in K-Mart one time. It changed colors under hot and cold water. My dad caught me in the bathroom running it under hot and cold water. We went to K-Mart as soon as they opened the next day and made me apologize. Never stole after that.

I stole a candy bar from Wal-Mart five or more years ago. I just did it to do it. No real reason. I just could.

That's why shopping carts have bigass poles on them now.

I was an LP detective for a while.

I do not miss it.

I saw a homeless woman walk out of a Raley's and the shift manager (?) walked after her saying "I can ring you up over here!". No idea how that turned out.

The poles are to keep the carts in the store. Some carts lock up if they leave the store. It was always more about keeping the carts rather than the merch. People love just walking out and home with store carts like they own them.

...and the easiest way to defeat that is to pop a wheelie. You can't really do that when the cart's full.

That's not how it works. You cant pop a wheelie to get them out... This isn't a debate, I worked in retail LP for a long time. We didn't put poles on carts to prevent shoplifting of merch, it was to keep people from taking our carts home or leaving them all over the parking lot.

In 97/98 I was working at Montgomery Wards in the Housewares department. Someone walked into the computers department, cut the cellophane tape around the computers on the endcap, grabbed one of them, and just rand out the door. Yes, they just cellophane taped 3 entire computers to the endcap... and that was it.

One of the workers for that area told his manager that I just watched it happen, so the manager came over to yell at me.

I was like, A) I was actively told NOT to pursue thieves. B) It's not my job. C) I didn't even see it in the first place.

That manager didn't like me very much. lol

it's the trashiest way out imo. wasn't proud that my dad did that with grocery's when i was young.

in vegas, certain stores had those devices on the wheels that lock up if go outside the vicinity of the parking lot with the cart.

My parents bought both the Atari 2600 and my NES from the same Wards I ended up working for. lol. I also bought my PSX and FF7 from there when I worked there.
