Wtf is API?

It's the thing you need to make bots and twitter apps. You may also need it to use OAuth. I don't know if Twitter has their own OAuth API or if they use a third party.

The official app will have unlimited access to it's own API. That's not going to change. This only affects developers and people who use 3rd party shit on Twitter.

Power / Utilities providers use bots for outages.

Schools use bots for closures / weather issues.

Sure we can live without them but you're going to end up hurting access to information to millions of people for no reason. Many school districts are strapped for cash hard and this is going to be the first thing on the chopping block.

You're obviously not paying attention. You must seem to think that since www.twitter.com still takes you somewhere then there haven't been any issues with the website, the app, or the company itself.

It's been that way for a while. IIRC there was a free endpoint but it had some pretty severe limitations on the size of your query and the frequency of them. You had to pay to get access to their full pipeline to do anything meaningful anyway.

I never even implied they werent having iasues. But I've heard the same people claim the site was supposed to have collapsed by Dec of last year.

Not saying it won't eventually. But it's obvious most have no idea when/if it will and only care about seeing Elon fail.

That means every app will not work unless they pay for it including ones like Tweetdeck, you can't log into sites with Twitter anymore meaning for some people they will permanently lose their accounts, and any sites related to art and artists will have more difficulty getting a platform.

It's the Adobe or Microsoft model. The price point is entirely for enterprise customers. They know regular folks are priced out, but Amazon won't even blink at that cost given the value of the data they can extract from Twitter.

$0.25 per request is absolutely insane. Plenty of companies smaller than Amazon use this api.

I don't disagree that the prices are high, but my point is Twitter will probably make more money from a few companies like Amazon shelling out for access to the data than they would charging a rate small businesses could afford. Why try to convince and support 100 companies to pay $25/mo when you can convince 1 company to pay $2500/mo? It's not like those large companies are going to stop scraping twitter for their ML models.

For comparison, the monthly cost of using Microsoft Azure's "advanced analytics" feature without any additional adders is roughly $23,000.00/mo. Twitter is aiming at becoming an "enterprise service" that large companies pay out hand over foot for because access to all that data is a massive competitive advantage and there's no alternative. They have data everyone needs, nobody else can produce, and an existing pipeline to provide it. For a company that's lost money every year for a decade+ in a row, its like the only lever they have to actually generate profit.

Those large companies are already paying for their large scale API access.

Twitter currently allows a small number of requests, up to 7 days in the past, for free. That's what's going away with this change. This change has nothing to do with heavy users like Amazon

Twitter's new alt-right, filthy rich CEO killing fun, harmless features by locking them behind paywalls one by one, to make sure not a soul can enjoy any of Twitter's historically free features without lining his fat rich pockets. This man is literally out to murder everything appealing about Twitter in cold blood by slowly changing every aspect of the site from free to premium-exclusive. I already hated him for his views and the effect they would have on the site's moral integrity with him as the CEO, but he's also just making exclusively terrible decisions by locking everything behind a paywall. Twitter is not a premium service, when Elon is done with it there will be no Twitter. If there's any proof of billionaires being greedy never-satisfied pieces of shit, Elon is it.

I thought the change might be tolerable if Cheap Bots Done Quick survives. The creator seems to think it won't. That tells me everything i need to know, and that's that there needs to be outrage. I have several bots that are harmless fun on Twitter. One was only created last year. And it's already being murdered in cold blood by a stupid rich pos. Seriously fuck Elon Musk.
