Automata is good but so far im enjoying Replicant more.

I'd have been more interested in a Nier remake if it was Gestalt instead of Replicant. Papa Nier>Brother Nier.

Im comparing them up to where i am so far and i didnt enjoy the beginning of automata at all. Setting is meh too.

My biggest annoyance with automatas beginning was:

I felt they hammered in your humanities last defense or something way too hard but never showed them so i guessed immediately they were gone and was right. And imo after the reveal the story just falls apart. Just my opinion and still great game.

I think Automata may have been some people's introduction to the madness that is Yoko Taro and were surprised by the story beats in the game. Combat was also fun,especially if you had played other titles in the series in the past. They weren't terrible, but more as something I would call serviceable.

I also agree that I would have preferred Papa Nier over the brother in the remaster. I will say that Nier does win for the best opening dialogue in a game. Kaine's little monologue is something I would have never imagined when loading a game for the first time, then it busts into such a sweet soundtrack. Only bad thing is that some of the scenes it shows later could be considered spoilers.

I prefer Gestalt too.

I feel like it captures the feeling of helplessness better. Also, even though it's still pretty bonkers, it somehow feels more grounded than where Automata went with it's story in the end. Even though it's often poorly done, I appreciate the different gameplay style attempts too.

I would think an anime adaptation of the first half of the game wouldn't have any real problems. Most of the wild WTF parts of it happen in the second half, which I think would be better to experience in the game first. This would be route C in the game, when Yorha announces it is time to begin the final assault on the robots once and for all. According to the game, this is when the real stuff starts. I mean, it isn't until you finish route B that the opening credits appear, making the first half of the game a prologue.

I enjoyed 2 full playthroughs of Automata, but that's only because the music and Post A routes actually being interesting

The first route is bad enough for a borderline drop, 2B ain't good enough to carry that story. A2 is a better 2B and once she is playable the game gets a lot better

The gameplay is... Passable. Most quests suck, and combat, I'd rather hack things than fight cuz normal combat is unfulfilling past the first 2 hours

Automata i thought 2bs path was fine, 9s was too similar and felt like a drag but then a2 finally moved the story along. I also didnt care at all towards the very end but the story up to there (nothing repeated in 9s) was good.

The gameplay ranges from serviceable to outright bad. It's definitely not as good as Automata and i never got into the nuance of Automato to fully appreciate it. The soundtrack is fantastic. The story is fucking crazy, but great. The multiple playthroughs add a lot of depth but the initial one is solid too.

Put it like this. The OST was released in April 2010. There was an arrange/remix version released in December. A tribute album in Sept 2011. Piano arrangments of songs in March 2012. These were all released by Square-Enix. A Jazz remix version was also released in August 2013, but not by SE.

How often do you think game soundtracks get this kind of treatment. Reading to the end of the wiki article, I saw this.

The Addendum version of "Song of the Ancients" was played during the Parade of Nations of the 2020 Summer Olympics opening ceremony.

I linked a youtube video earlier, which is the opening movie. That is the type of music you can expect throughout the game.
