The person litterally showed me a dm saying I should dumb my bf and he "deserves" violence because of this on Messenger because I said on a fb group that he wants the new game. Some people are taking it too far...

I don't believe you, TC. Outside of CE, there really aren't that many people that act this deranged about JK Rowling.

I was in the UK last November and the Harry Potter stores at the airport and in London are just as active as ever. Rowling will forever be remembered as the creative mind that produced Harry Potter, end of story.

I'm likely just being cynical but I'm starting to think a lot of people don't actually care about any of this and they're more focused on projecting to others that they're not transphobic and good people who hate transphobes.

Why do you need to constantly learn about ethical consumption? There is no such thing as ethical consumption under capitalism, but some forms of consumption are more ethical than others and everyone has their own line.

I think there are fans who would disagree with this assessment.

I understand not personally wishing to contribute to something. But you're never going to bankrupt J.K. Rowling.

If you have a subscription to HBO Max, you contribute to her revenue. If you visit the Universal Studios theme parks, you contribute to her revenue. If you purchase a console on which the Harry Potter games can be played, etc.

If refusal to eat a chicken sandwich would cause the head of Chick-Fil-A to suffer a fall from grace, I could do with the sacrifice. Since that bastard will die wealthy, I don't deprive myself tasty food.

I'm not getting the Harry Potter game, but only because I wasn't planning to in the first place. Your comfort zone is your comfort zone and nobody should fault you for refraining from getting something if you feel it's wrong to do so. But you're kidding yourself if you think this protest is going to make a difference. There are easily a hundred people who will get the game for every one person who says not to. In truth, it's probably a greater division even than that.

That doesnt count because giving up gas isnt convenient, whereas not consuming Harry Potter or Chik fil A is easy. Unwilling to inconvenience themselves, most people take a firm stand on the easy things and/or rattle off indefensibly simple but seemingly profound slogans about ethical consumption under capitalism, which they dont actually believe, or at the very least dont take seriously.

Its mostly grandstanding from people who want to make a difference but dont know how. They mean well and ultimately deserve our encouragement.
