There's definitely benefits to doing so beyond being able to identify suspects upon arrest without question.

They should take DNA samples and put them into a database upon birth.

For everyone else, require it when you go to renew a voter card/ID/Driver license.

What really needs to happen is fingerprints and DNA samples shouldn't be taken at birth, but upon death, and run though a database of all unsolved crimes where fingerprints and DNA are available.

I bet it would close the book on a lot of unsolved crimes.

Until you get a guy who submits his own finger prints as someone's dead person's fingerprints and now all his murder cases got closed.
