JK Rowling was directly involved with the screenplay and other aspects of the Fantastic Beasts movies. It may not have flopped because of her views on trans people, but her involvement directly factored into the movie sucking.

I really enjoyed Lovecraft Country even though it's name and premise is based on and inspired by a very widely recognized racist. Really wish that show got a second season. Am I wrong or is this a very similar instance?

Firstly - I do agree everyone has to take personal responsibility for their actions. If they do feel strongly they should boycott and it sounds like you will so I respect that. But lets not pretend thats actually going to make a difference in real terms.

I think education is the key in a lot of cases like this. Id rather spend my time trying to promote getting her to sit down and have a live debate on the issue where her beliefs can be challenged. No doubt her history of being in an abusive relationship has played a massive role in her current views. Id like to see that explored more but Im not sure shes ever spoken about it in detail. If she still feels pain from that and hasnt dealt with those emotions its easy to see how she might be deflecting into trans rights. Trying to get her into a live debate might not go anywhere but it will show if she is or isnt actually interested in discourse in the issue and that can be pretty telling.

Its also very easy for her to sit behind a screen and say whatever she wants regardless of how ignorant it may be because shes not forced to respond to the criticism she gets. She can pick and chose what she responds to and she has a history of blocking people who make well informed logics points against her. Not just points based on emotion. Im sure you can personally relate to that by being on here for so long and seeing how people can cope with disagreement in not very constructive ways.

Words cannot describe how much I've grown to hate this imp masquerading as a human.

I don't buy that nonsense that evil is the result of good people doing nothing. All the pain and suffering throughout history is not the fault of people being too tolerant of the bad. That's essentially victim blaming. It is 100% the fault of those performing the bad actions and they don't give a fuck what is good or what the people think. This worthless bitch Rowling can say she feels vindicated when people look at a Harry Potter book, but you are fooling yourself if you think she'll shut up and burn her money if she doesn't get a royalty payment from a game she has no involvement in made by people who hate her. She may have been paid up front anyway.

* Taking responsibility for your own actions.
* Trying to actually do something to make a change for the better.

They arent mutually exclusive but too many people concentrate on the first one and not the second. Not buying the game falls into the first category and lets not fool ourselves its going to make any material changes to how she operates.
