Good movie. Takes a second to get going but once it does it doesn't let up. Not as great as Possessor but Baby Cronenberg is living up to his name while still paving his own path.
I will say though I wish he'd steer away from the drug scenes in his movies. Feels like it's too easy of a motif and a lot of the visuals kinda just blend in too much with eachother across movies.
I thought this sounded like the dumbest concept for a movie, ever. Like nothing about their clone setup makes any kind of sense.
It makes sense in that the local government enables the ultra wealthy in committing atrocious acts in order to create an endless cycle of crime tourism. Basically using their citizens as fodder for the rich to do as they please as long as they pay.
It's a good concept imo. Not necessarily the most original especially with all the other class conscious movies and shows that have become popular now, but still good.
I saw it last night too. I enjoyed it, slightly more than Possessor. But I know others enjoyed Possessor more than I did.
7 / 10 for me.
Also, what is it about Mia Goth that is so intoxicating? She isn't classically attractive and yet she is so sultry.
I think she was particularly unattractive cuz of her character in this movie ngl but she's also not my type. Good actress though. I was pissed Skarsgard was messing around on his super hot wife tho smh. Like come on bro you hit a homerun. But that was the point >.>

But even that doesn't make sense. What government is trying to bring in crime? Nobody actually tries to do that. And it doesn't even make sense to turn off tourism for 99.9999% of the population just to appeal to the nutjob class of the 1%ers. Not to mention turning your home into a shithole. And why the fuck would killing a clone provide any satisfaction to a victim? What victim is going to be like, "well the guy who murdered my entire family got to walk free, but it's ok since I got to kill this clone they made yesterday."

Did the victim's families know about the cloning process? Regardless, I am pretty certain they were killing the originals and the clones walked free.

A fictional, extremely poor and corrupt country. And it's not like the victim's family have much of a say in the matter. Basically "this is what you get now live with it". Though the movie paints it as the citizens being zealots and patriarchal, earning back their family's pride by killing the clones.

Tbf the families are in the same rooms as the clones and the regular people during the execution. They just have to turn around to see them lol
I think the clones are the ones that are killed still, but I also don't think that really matters to the story. And he explains it as so. Just an interesting thing to think about.

True

I don't know. The fact that they are so rejuvenated afterward suggests otherwise. Also, both versions clearly have the same memories so you would never know. And what was the deal with the breastfeeding scene? Like he is a newborn. There is actually no evidence to suggest they are the originals still unless I missed it. I agree it doesn't matter though.

I took that breastfeeding scene as a sign of his rebirth, not from the cloning, but from being completely stripped down both emotionally and physically by everything the group did to him from the kidnap scene onward.

I did think about that too. And what to them is a hopeful rebirth into their lifestyle. Like the worst hazing ever lol.
