Sure, you can always drop in at any time and start learning. We have an ongoing NHL topic here, a lot of knowledgeable fans on CE that will help you out, including myself. I've been a hockey fan since about 88-89.

If you have interest now then sure; just start watching the games.

If you still dont have any interest, then why bother?

I suggest start by watching a game of your local hockey team and see what you think.

Also playoff hockey is coming up, one of the best things in sports.

Bowling is "sports" for dumpy guys. Maybe also golf.

hold on... is this about playing sports, or merely watching?

ESPN+ is like $5 a month and carries a ton of games every night, you could always go for a week trial and watch a few games also, see if it's something you'd get into.

Start with fantasy. Itll make you know players from all the teams, and give you a rooting interest

I got my girlfriend into football over the last two years and now she loves it

Not when I play it lol. It's gotten expensive the past few years, 30 dollars CAD for an hour, but I can knock out 12-13 games an hour assuming my fingers don't blister from grabbing the ball too tight. I'm exhausted after an hour from all the movement.

Would like to note that this is 5 pin, not 10 pin as my province only has 2 places that have 10 pin bowling and tbh, I really don't enjoy it as much as 5 pin.

We are gonna do a CE fantasy hockey league next season I think if you want in, I'm probably gonna run it.

Nah you can get into them at any age. It doesn't take years to learn how the game is played or pointing out your favorite players lol.

I did this to get more into football with the guys at work. Been doing it for a few years now and it really helped.

Might be worth getting an NHL game to play too as itll help you with teams and the rules. I got MLB The Show when I wanted to get into baseball

If you're not interested in something then you're not interested, you don't have to be FOMO in every conversation people have.

But if you are interested, but don't really want to dedicate yourself to sports, just download a sports app and just read headlines/watch highlights. You'll be lost at first but after a week or two certain players and teams will start to stick just from repetition and you'll know enough to converse at a basic level ("yeah, that was a pretty sick goal Joe Blow had in that Animal vs Animal game, I can't believe how close that game was!").

Fantasy and sports betting also help a lot, they give you some incentives to be involved in the sports, but they could also involve a level of dedication you don't want or have the time for.

Sure. Hockey is great, with the caveat that live hockey is infinitely better than the televised counterpart.

Is there a junior or minor league hockey team near you? If so, I'd definitely recommend checking that out on the cheap.

Do you have anyone you can watch with? That would probably make for a better initial experience. Also wouldnt hurt to have someone explain rules (like icing or offsides) or some of the common things that might not be easily understood at first glance (like the line changes).

But yeah, just give it a shot and see if you like it.
