It just means the actual release date is the first one, and if you stump up enough cash, you get to play it on release date. The rest of us have to wait a week.

I'm gonna need an example here.

Hogwarts Legacy releases 2/10. 2/7 if you buy deluxe.

EA does this with their sports titles. Not sure who else, but I regularly see it for bigger releases.

Like a Dragon Ishin is doing it too.

It's a predatory practice, playing off people's fear of FOMO and also taking advantage of content creators who are in a mad rush to being the first one to report on the game and thus get the most eyes on their work.

It's three goddamn days people.

I think WWE 2K is doing this as well. Although it may just be early release if you preorder digitally.

Its only 3 days, yeah. But its also only an extra $10, so I can see how people will Do it.

plus like you said, FOMO. Itd be pretty easy to get spoiled if you dont do it.

It's part of the reason why I don't play that many major AAA games on release, and certainly none that require day one access. CoD has a big issue with this.

If it's a compromise to avoid microtranscations within a game, I'm fine with timed early access. In the case of Hogwarts Legacy people got nervous when they saw 30 minute timers for basic plants being grown; a very common microtransaction practice is to pay cash to skip timers.

Hmm. Im hoping it will be pretty well ironed out. Gameplay leaked as early as 2018, and theyve pushed the release date a couple times.

Yeah its been a thing for a minute now. Last games I remember pre-ordering on psn to play 4 days early was back 4 blood (which I regret a little) and persona 5 strikers.

Doubt. Three days is a blink in game dev time, and the game is already out of beta.

I did that with Shadow Of The Tomb Raider.

I stumped up the cash to buy The Croft Edition of the game and it gave me 3 days early access to the game.

Yeah, quite a few games have been offering that lately. Some games lock early access behind their most expensive version though.

Like Forza Horizon 5. The game was normally $60. But if you bought the $100 version, that included all of the future dlc, you could play the game 4 days early.
