She was clearly designed to be a support character, with the two best support spells in the game in Haste and Life 2. The problem is that with Haste Helms being plentiful the spell version is kinda bad and with healing being so widely available Life 2 isn't exactly needed. As for an AOE heal the designers clearly wanted that to be only on double/triple techs and giving it to a single character would have really skewed the action economy.

TL;DR: Marle is fine, but unfortunately the role she was designed for is outclassed by items. Take away those items and her value goes up significantly

You wouldn't have a bunch of Haste Helms until you're partway through the final dungeon and she learns Haste a lot earlier. I think it's underrated how much use it adds for a lot of the game. One cast of it can last a full boss battle and it effectively doubles a character's DPS.

But yeah, she should definitely have learned a heal-all too. Doesn't really make sense that even Frog gets one and Marle doesn't.

I've always liked equipment and items that permanently cast spells as soon as battle starts like haste on all party members instantly or attack up and defense up. If there was a way to get that all the time without equipment I'd be for it, would really help to break nearly any game.

What was Marle best known for. Before the DS version having infinite stat boosting items I think the end game party might have been crono-ayla-robo
