I've dabbled in a lot of others and have retained some knowledge or nothing at all. I went to school with many, many children whose parents came from other countries. Most of those students spoke their parents' native language(s) at home and English everywhere else. Nobody else in her family was fluent. She ended up getting a degree in it and teaching ESL students for a couple of decades, until the schools started getting really shitty about funding such programs. Just saying, it may be difficult but I don't believe that it's near impossible. It just takes a pointed dedication that most English-only speakers don't bother with. I can barely understand my 2nd language and my 1st language is totally lost on me. i've seen and heard recordings of 4-year-old me speaking my 1st language and it's just gibberish to me now. :( --- I'm a Taurus I like collecting headphones and iems.
