If you mean fluency then 1. If not, then 3 with 2 of them being at a conversational level.

Spanish is my main language, I think my English is alright. My Japanese is good enough for everyday talk and I can handwrite it too.

I've dabbled in a lot of others and have retained some knowledge or nothing at all. But in due time I'll pick them back up again. I love languages.

I went to school with many, many children whose parents came from other countries. Most of those students spoke their parents' native language(s) at home and English everywhere else.

I'd guess that such a thing isn't uncommon and that there are probably several million Americans who grew up speaking multiple languages.

Fluently? Enough to get by? Studied in a formal setting?

I am a native speaker of English.

I used to speak Spanish fairly well but have become rusty over time.

I studied French in college but that was almost 30 years ago.

I studied ASL in grad school but never learned enough to produce any original language.

Do I answer 1, 2, maybe 3?

I can poorly speak enough Spanish (and Esperanto if that counts) to manage a shopping trip and maybe find my way to the nearest embassy or government building. Oh, and bathrooms. Gotta know how to ask about those.

voted one. tested at a c1 level (cefr) in another language a long time ago, though, and i am certain i would perform better today in all categories even though i don't actively produce in it anymore
i read and listen to various scandinavian and romance languages pretty regularly, and love reading classical latin, but unless i decide to spend an extended period in catalonia or something i'll never be fluent in any of them. i don't care enough to practice output. by the time i'm old, i'd like to be familiar with bulgarian, serbo-croatian, and japanese, again with no aspirations of fluency

Yeah getting the tones right is the biggest obstacle. They can be pretty subtle. Not to mention the dialects from North to Central to South Vietnam are distinctly different.

Im finding that sometimes I cant even hear the difference in the tones, let alone say them correctly.

tbh if you grew up in a household/community that speaks only English, it's pretty much impossible to attain fluency in another language

I knew someone who gained her Spanish fluency by watching a lot of Telemundo to complement her school lessons. Nobody else in her family was fluent. She ended up getting a degree in it and teaching ESL students for a couple of decades, until the schools started getting really shitty about funding such programs.

Just saying, it may be difficult but I don't believe that it's near impossible. It just takes a pointed dedication that most English-only speakers don't bother with. Can't speak for the Commonwealth nations but American culture certainly doesn't encourage things like independent study or actually learning anything that's not affixed to a slogan.

English
Louisiana Creole

Trying to learn Tutnese, it's an endangered language but has seen a resurgence in young folks trying to learn. It was developed as a way for enslaved people to covertly learn how to read and write. My grandparents and other elders in the family spoke Creole French and Tut when they didn't want the kids to know what they were talking about.

Thats definitely not true. However, it does help to spend a serious amount of time living in a relevant country.

I know enough ASL to hold down a conversation (might have to finger spell here and there) but I'm slow. Haven't used it in a long time, either, so I'm very rusty. Worked with a hearing impaired guy for years and between him and the internet I learned a ton.

english is my 3rd language but i forgot the other 2 since my parents didn't help me maintain my other two languages when I was a kid lol. so I can only speak 1 language now. I can barely understand my 2nd language and my 1st language is totally lost on me.

i've seen and heard recordings of 4-year-old me speaking my 1st language and it's just gibberish to me now. :(
