Those were the days, man. The Pokemon vs Digimon wars were especially brutal and then there was the great Nintendo vs Sony war which was even more dramatic because if not for Nintendo going for carts over disks Sony would be part of Nintendo now but they said that shit sucked and ever since the two have had bad blood between them.

Oh, and while we're on the subject of Sega there's Sega of Japan vs Sega of America, they still to this day fucking hate each other's guts and it all started because of the Sega Saturn and Sega of Japan's dumbass handling of it and instead blaming the gajins for the failure.

Ye, but because of the feud we can call Sonic Adventure 2 an indie game.

Yeah, everything I've read about the Sega America/Japan rivalry is just so bizarre to me. Besides the Sonix X-treme debacle I also remember hearing how they kneecapped some fighting game that was relatively successful in America because they were insistant on pushing Virtua Fighter and didn't want anything else hogging the spotlight.

Sega used to blast this slogan in UK, which was a wordplay because Sega backward was ages.https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/0/7/5/AAA_aCAAEILb.jpg
The Commodore CD32 was directly fighting the Sega CD. Since the CD32 used faster hardware, it was used in the ads all the time.

But their best campaign was when they blasted To be this good will take Sega ages all around Sega UK HQ.

In USA, Nec created a comic character called Johnny Turbo to advertise the Turbo Duo, a hybrid of the Turbografx-16 console and its add-on, the TurboGrafx CD, in some advertisment comics, where he was fighting the evil FEKA (Sega) company.
One comic:
A toystore is filled with happy kids that are holding FEKA CD console boxes, ready to buy them.
Suddenly a FEKA agent appears, looking like a men in black. He walks up to the nearest kid holding a box.
So you are going to join the FEKA family, huh. Want to play the first CD based console? Good choice... except that you need to buy the more expensive FEKA base console to be able to play it, mwahahahahaha!
And no games are included, so you must buy one as well, mwahahahahahaha!!!
Everybody in the store hear this and starts crying. Leaving without buying a new CD-based console is not an option, they will be forced to shell out the money.
Suddenly Johnny Turbo appears!
Dont listen to him, kids!
The Turbo Duo is the real first CD-based console that need no base console, and a game is always included!
Dont buy the FAKE FEKA (wordplay) console, they are just trying to make you buy expensive dated technology! And their socalled new games are old, that Sherlock Holmes game that they advertised was released on the Turbo Duo two years ago!!!
The kids are cheering and buys Turbo Duo consoles while the FEKA agent runs away.

Yeah, that was Eternal Champions, and the way SEGA Japan kneecapped it despite it's success really showed how petty they were.

They--or rather, Yuji Naka--also played a factor in the death of a promising Star Fox clone called "Geist Force", which was going to be a launch title. When Naka's team came over to America to tour the studio, they were so impressed by their tech that they had plans to take the tech for themselves back to Japan and fire everyone except for the one engineer who knew the most about the tech. Naka and his team said this amongst themselves in Japanese, but the devs knew fluent Japanese and heard it all, which of course pissed them off and led to most of their team leaving the studio, resulting in the game being cancelled despite being near completion.
