There are no products that you can buy that don't involve people doing much more heinous and relevant things, such as child or slave labor. People against this don't actually care about transphobia, they just want to pretend they're doing something good in the world without having to actually do anything.

This is such a bad argument. Of course I cant boycott/protest every single entity out there, because at that point you're just rallying against a complex chain of oppression that spans centuries and continents. But what I can do is choose a handful of causes that I absolutely won't give money to, and make that an additional form of activism.

"You can't protest this bad thing unless you simultaneously protest all bad things" is a purposely impossible standard to hold people to in order to discredit them. That's all it is.

And that's honestly fine, everyone picks and chooses their own battles. The issue is when said people start throwing their houlier than thou attitude and starts shaming and guilting others into boycotting as well. That's when the hypocrisy argument becomes valid imo.

Okay, but the original comment that started that chain simply said they weren't buying the game because Rowling is a transphobe. They didn't ask anyone else to not buy the game, they said they weren't buying it.

If they started it its on them if not then harder to tell based on comments because we are on public forums someone is bound to reply in certain ways. The fact is the biggest annoyance in terms of this situations are the people that have the holier then thou mentality (and the trolls claiming they will buy several copies)

Just 2 more weeks! The closer we get to release the more excited I get. I watched a 30 gameplay walk through with the Devs on YT and the Open World looks fucking great. It's giving off Witcher 3 vibes.

I haven't kept up with the thread but I was basically agreeing with you. There's nothing wrong about choosing your own battles. There's just been multiple topics that went to 500 where people were trying to shame and guilt others by calling them "not a true ally" to trans is when I step my foot down on these types of boycotts. To me, it's no different than those Christians casting judgement on other Christians for not being a "true christian".

I don't get the argument anyway. Why not boycott Warner Brothers for making the game too? Literally nobody in any of these threads has said they would do that. It has only ever been about Rowling.

I know Rowling said she feels vindicated by people buying HP shit, but I have 100% confidence that she isn't going to feel bad about her shitty opinions and stop spending her billions if a game she has no involvement in flops financially. She is unfortunately set for life.

The developers are literally making the game in spite of her, flipping her the bird with their trans options and several trans employees, but JK is too morally void to give a damn.

I am gonna be honest I don't think the 3 bucks she, maximum, from each Hogwarts Legacy sale, is going to affect much of anything.

It could even be lower. I'm not entirely sure. Does anyone know?
