Whether it's through over leveling, finding that one awesome item that shreds through enemies, doing glitches to get unlimited money, cheat codes, etc. Most of the time I want video games to be challenging, but sometimes I just want to take it easy and play through a game where I wreck everything. Call it a power fantasy I guess, but it's fun.

Despite it's thrashing by the Angry Video Game Nerd, I think the NES Godzilla does a good job of capturing the feel of what it's like to be an overpowered giant monster. Tanks, jets, and flying saucers do little to hurt Godzilla or Mothra and will explode on contact with one of the monsters.

There are boss fights and red rings of doom, so it's not like the player is never in danger. Other than that, you're pretty much steamrolling through the game.

I like having an overpowered move/ability set with all kinds of different options for different scenarios

But I also like the game to be balanced around that and still challenging

God of War Ragnarok comes to mind recently. You can do all sorts of shit but you can still get knocked on your ass

Common sense says it may not taste good, but it'll make a turd.

Not on the first playthrough.

But finish the game, wait a little while, and then say: "Hey, I want to see that story again, but don't want all the grinding."?
Time for some cheats.

I'm playing another file on Elden Ring and doing magic this time. Going back and killing those early bosses with my OP astrologer character gives me some nice satisfaction after struggling with them beforehand.

playing Project Zomboid, where they normally make you take negative perks to balance the good ones, making you play as a meh nobody, in a game which is very unforgiving

playing as a fit alpha type special forces guy, like 6k kills after a month

Some games are better as power fantasies than as challenges. Like, AC Odyssey, I loved having all the tools they give you to slip through forts and take out enemies one by one. Gears Tactics was a hell of a lot of fun combining abilities and just wasting enemies 10 at a time

I do, but honestly Im not someone who gets a sense of satisfaction from being challenged, so I have just as much fun is something is on the easier side.

Not really people shit on Oblivion for the enemy scaling with you but I would rather the game be somewhat challenging to the end instead of me just running around like Dr Manhattan

I remember one time I used an action replay for Path of Radiance, to see how OP I could become. I ended up finding a code that would let you turn all enemy units into player units at the push of a button
By the end of the game I had recruited:
5 Ikes
6 Black Knights
Griel
2 of all the Laguz leaders

It was a blast

Yeah it's fun sometimes. I used a Pelican cheat peripheral to alter my game of Pokmon Silver and give myself six Lvl. 100 Magikarp that all knew Lock-On and Guillotine.

Destroyed. Everything.

For rpgs i find the grind to becoming overpowered fun. Once I hit the endgame stats and equipment tho I get bored after a few hours lol

It depends how it is done.

Usually, one of the best ways to do this is when you have an OP temporary party member in an RPG that just wrecks everyone. A great way for gameplay to show how strong a character is.

I like the games where at the start you are super powerful, you destroy everything extremely fast. Then something happens and you lose all of your powers and you have to slowly gain them back.

Also the Crackdown games were a lot of fun. You start as a scrub, then slowly get stronger, jump higher, run faster and you are uber powerful
