You get talking to someone and they speak 6 languages, are studying a postdoc while working in some humanitarian cause and they have like a dozen interesting hobbies

I'm like haha, yeah I like videogames but I don't even really bother playing them

While perhaps slightly exaggerated, this does match up quite well with the people I know in Edinburgh.

It's not even much of an exaggeration. I was just talking to someone who speaks english, mandarin, cantonese, japanese, german and french, is studying a postdoc and likes to do metallurgy in her free time.

Who just takes up metallurgy...

Sorry, I didnt mean to say that you were exaggerating, but rather that my friends there tend to only speak 3-5 languages.

Im well aware. Back in Bristol I was a quizmaster and a fairly competitive pub quizzer, but the few Ive done in Edinburgh were considerably harder across the board than the ones in Bristol.

Are you no longer living in NYC?

And is urban Scotland really THAT cosmopolitan?

I was the best man at a wedding in that castle. I dread to think how much it cost.

The thing about British place names is that you have to remove as many of the letters as possible when you say then.

En-bruh

Hah, nice! Yeah it's basically university challenge here. Less questions on who won the english league 2 and more questions like how many quarks in a proton
