Somehow people think Elden Ring is better

That's how AAA games are nowadays. Everyone has to quip every 2 seconds, the game has to blatantly tell you what to do and paths must be linear and cinematic.

I haven't played Elden Ring but there's literally no way it isn't better.

There was a whole other game before this, logos on the box, a big price tag, exclusivity to a certain console, journalists handing out awards and lots of shallow hype all joining forces to warn you. You still went for it.

Elden Ring and God of War Ragnarok are two totally different games, why the fuck are people trying to still compare them? That shit was only for the shitty Game Awards of 2022.

Neither were the best game of 2022 anyway. Freedom Planet 2, and Spark the electric Jester 3 were the best games of the year.

tbh it's hard for me to play a game after I beat it because that means there's usually no more story or dialogue to keep me going

Elden Ring isn't even better than Bloodborne. And I think it suffers from being open-world. Still good, though.

Honestly, I like Souls-style games too. These God of War haters would tell someone to not play a Souls if they don't like it as is, but they'll tell you any game that has lots of linearity or story is objectively terrible because it isn't their cup of tea.

Pretty sure a lot of people think Bloodborne is the best thing ever so not sure what your point is? Personally I have no issue with linearity or story, I just found GoW 2018 to become a slog. Plus the story wasnt even that good.

Who said I wasn't having fun? That's just my favorite part in a lot of games and I don't mean it as an attack on the gameplay, generally.

But also Doom Eternal was my GOTY 2020, so it's a not a hard rule, just a preference. I still play Binding of Isaac and Dead Cells and No Man's Sky.
