Ive never actually played Portable or Golden just the original versions (and P3FES) so Ill have to check these out sometime. P3P averaging an 84 on MC and 80 on MC. P4G faring much better with a 92 on MC and 88 on OC. Ill try to post both quotes if a single publication reviewed both (theres more P4G reviews than P3P)

My issues with Persona 3 Portable itself aside, the new PC port is excellent. It scales across different hardware well, runs well and looks good on Steam Deck, and arrives without the issues P4G had at launch on PC. It is disappointing that after all these years Persona 3's arrival on modern platforms isn't a complete remake, but it is hard to argue with the value P3P provides at its low asking price right now.

P4G 10/10
Persona 4 Golden on Nintendo Switch feels perfect. Having now played this new version on all platforms, the Nintendo Switch version is the one I'd recommend above all for the system's hybrid nature, and because Atlus has done a fantastic job with this port bringing one of the best JRPGs of all time to a new audience. Hopefully it gets a physical release in the future.

With this PC version bringing along the enhancements and new features of Golden, there's never been a better time to Reach out to the Truth for newcomers or for veterans to Make History.

Persona 4: Golden is probably the ideal place to start your Persona experience if you haven't yet. It's probably the most consistent of the three games, and it nails the atmosphere, characterization and tone while keeping the gameplay fresh and exciting enough. It fun even if you are coming directly from Persona 3 Portable. If you have the current PC release, not a ton has changed with the latest patch, and you might consider whether you want to start this all over again. If you're looking for an excuse to pick it up, there's no better time.

P3P remains an enjoyable JRPG, but we would say this is easily the most skippable of the mainline Persona games on Switch at present. An engrossing story and well-balanced gameplay loop easily justify a purchase, though things like Tartarus' repetitive floors, the visual novel presentation, and the lack of FES content hold this one back from the heights its successors reached. We'd give P3P a recommendation, though only after having played both P4G and P5R, and only if you still find yourself needing more Persona in your life. This is still a great installment for Persona fans and will be best appreciated by players who have that contextual series knowledge, but its rougher edges may put others off.

Over ten years later, Persona 4 Golden remains a thoroughly enjoyable and engrossing RPG that, for the most part, has stood the test of time. Although its visuals might be a bit dated, the gameplay and story presented here do more than enough to justify the purchase, while all the tweaks and additions that came with this 'Golden' edition round out most of the rougher edges from the initial PS2 release. If you're looking to give the Persona series a shot, Persona 5 Royal is a good place to start, but P4G is an excellent entry in the series and one that we would recommend you pick up when you can.

Knew P3P was gonna get slammed (well, "slammed" in relative terms). On Golden they could cheap out and direct port because that version is already feature complete unless you're a fucking wierdo like me. P3P was handheld neutured and it's no surprise people are unhappy they kept it as is.

Also there was an article like a month ago in Japan comparing the new release and the PSP release visually and it was like....nothing. Like, technically higher res...technically.

Also yeah P3P is doing even worse on Metacritic.

Never played P3P and almost bought FES ages ago. Guess I'll finally get to play it.

Picked up P3P anyways because I've still never beaten this game.

They really put that good foot forward with the high res opening and UI assets, but as soon as you actually start it's straight into the uglier than EVER blown up CG stills that look like I'm running a PSP into a TV with AV cables.

Honestly they should be ashamed they didn't insert the actual cutscenes into this in the first place for this release, but not even attempting to make a pass on these stills is just straight up gross.

They're never going to release a definitive version of this game, it's suffering.

A Persona 3 remake is one of the rumored unannounced Atlus games so I wouldn't count it out yet

The definitive way to play Persona 3 right now is playing FES with full party control hack on an emulator with the highest settings possible. The female MC is the only real draw to P3P.

Switch version seems to be recommended since it's on a smaller screen.
