Moderna (2) + Booster.

I wasn't getting the bivalent booster because a) my workplace hadn't been giving them out yet which had made my first ones far easier and b) It kind of seemed like it was going the flu vaccine route where they're just guessing what strains are bad and targeting those.

My friends who got the bivalent booster had harsher adverse reactions to it than previous ones and then a couple of them still got COVID anyway (just not one of the two strains protected against). I got COVID for the first time in December and was mostly unaffected (i.e. if it wasn't contagious and stuff I would have been fine to work through it) so I think ultimately it wasn't worth the bivalent.

The implication in every post you're making is that the vaccination is unnecessary.

I got the two initial and one booster but never bothered to get the newer booster since it seems like its already behind the current circulating strains so I dont see it being too effective.

I havent gotten COVID once though so hopefully my luck continues to hold.

They are always worth getting, because even if it doesn't stop current strains, the immunity boost will help lessen the impact.

Yeah it's like a 60% buff instead of a 90% buff, for example. I don't actually know the percentages off hand but think of it like that.

2 Moderna shots and got a booster last January

Because I went to an event that had a mask mandate, kept wanting to remove my mask, kept getting badgered by the staff there to put it back on, and now I'm just tired of having to obey that rule.

I'd rather not trouble myself even if it means I have less fun as a result. I don't want to be an asshole who causes problems for refusing to wear a mask (but I guess that doesn't matter because expressing my position means I'm an asshole already and I need to lose access to my GameFAQs account).

So to summarize

• You went to an event that you knew required masks
• You took your mask off
• A member of staff asked you to put your mask back on in accordance with the mandate
• You took your mask off again
• You were asked to put your mask back on a second time
• You took your mask off again

And somehow the staff at the venue are the ones in the wrong because you wanted to act like a petulant child?

I don't understand you people. I am keeping myself from going to events where I don't agree with the rules, how am I the problem?

Because at this point, you're choosing to not be vaccinated and the point of wearing the mask is to prevent others from catching covid, and at this point I don't care if antivaxxers get covid.

I'll wear em on planes still but that's moreso due to the circulated air so I think it's a good idea going forward covid or not.

There was a Sega fan festival late last year that was requiring it and I wasn't pleased by the rule.

That said I didn't go to that due to circumstance, not because of the rule (Tropical Storm Nicole hit Florida at the same time and my dad didn't want to stay near the coast when it did so we had to evacuate, which kept me from picking up my rental car to go to the event).

But since I can't cope with being told I'm an awful person I just threw my keyboard at the fucking screen.

Literally the only justification you've given for repeatedly taking a mask off at an event that you knew required it, and where you were repeatedly asked to keep it on, is "I don't wanna"

Why should we believe you wouldn't have pulled the same stunt at the Sega event

I don't doubt that I would have. I just don't like keeping something on over my face.

I'd never admonish someone else for wearing a mask if they feel that it's good for their own health, I just don't like it myself and am not comfortable with going to events where it could be an issue if I don't.

Its worth noting that its not 2020 anymore. Were at a different place with this virus. Its mutated into less lethal (but more contagious) strains and weve simply got better at fighting the virus. (Which is the fate of all viruses and why the human race is still living with variants of the Spanish Flu.)

We couldnt convince my elderly aunt to get vaccinated and when she inevitably got Covid the hospital gave her that Remdesivir treatment and it stopped her Covid in its tracks. My cousin was actually pissed because he didnt qualify for the treatment at the time and he had to just get better on his own.

Eventually Covid will probably mutate down to the point where skipping the vaccine runs the same risk as skipping your flu shot. We obviously not there yet though.

So if youre a young, healthy, shut-in then skipping the vaccine is probably dumb, but its probably not earth shatteringly stupid now. But youre definitely still rolling the dice even though your odds have improved in the last three years.

Also - just as an interesting side note - CVS actually refused to give my mom her Covid booster because her cancer meds had lowered her immune system down to nothing. I think the pharmacist over reacted since the vaccine isnt a live virus. But we didnt push the issue.

Yeah but we're approaching two years since the height of the pandemic and we have solutions in place now to mitigate the risk. When it was required I did put up with it but the event in question was one that happened at the tail end of 2021, after the first round of vaccinations were available (and IIRC the first booster had already been made available by that point too).

So it's gotten to a point where, yes, I'd rather make a choice to go to events where masking is optional instead of mandated at this stage. It's not a rule I personally feel like I could comply with consistently so if there is no option in the matter, masking a requirement of attendance, I'd rather just sit it out.

I'll continue to get COVID vaccinations as long as they're offered.
