Looking at you, Trails

you did it in trails in the sky the 3rd with castle phantasmagoria and you had to kit out all 16 party members

and now cold steel 4 the black workshop you need to kit out a minimum of 9 people -_- and its not even halfway through the game so dont have 9 people worth of gear

I also hate when games make me use characters I don't want to use

If you rotate a buncha people fuck having a lot of shit to manage per person.

or when they take away enough girls that you cant field a full party without using some boys

Also yeah absolute trash when a RPG keeps forcibly changing who you can use. Especially when the game takes your gear with them or has resources you put into units and permantently lose without warning.

Well I suppose it's better than having a jrpg where the whole game is just a dungeon.

When that one party member you didn't like so never used becomes prominent and necessary later.

I don't think I've ever played Final Fantasy 7 without using the exact same party every game

My FF7 party was always Cloud, Yuffie and Vincent. Not the best but I liked them.

This is why you expand your parties kit gradually. If the only the numbers go up...meh let me get new shit as I go.

Or make it fairly simple to swap and gear up. If the game is made with switching in mind benched members should get exp too.

It worked alright in Breath of Fire Dragon Quarter. Besides myself the six other people that played that can back me up maybe.

- New Weapons
- New Armor
- New Accessories
- New Spells or abilities to master/ utilize
- New Skills to equip
- Round up party member levels
- Actually have the money to do the above
- Dungeon is a breeze, not because you are well equipped, it just wasn't that difficult in the first place
- Repeat

Oh yeah Nihon Falcom has a really bad habit of doing that for the finale of their games. Did it with most of the Trails games, and they did it with Tokyo Xanadu Ex+. It's really annoying when you have only been focusing on a few characters for most of the game and they decide the final dungeon needs to make use of your entire roster of playable characters.

At first with Chained Echoes I was resistant to using all the characters available but they all have their respective merits. Setting up status combos is pretty fun.

Robb and Tomke are trash

Is there at least an "auto equip" option? Tbh unless there's a specific ability/buff I need I never pay attention to the armor and just use whatever has the highest stats.

Yeah, but Ill use him to set Sierra up for her attack thats powered up through paralyze for some good single target damage. Other than that he is ok for spreading poison around.
