I picked up Dragonflight and finished the various leveling quests. I can tell that it's objectively a pretty good expansion, but it just hasn't grabbed me the way Legion or even WoD did.

Maybe that'll change when I try the raid.

Dragonflight was pretty ass from what I tried. Same old "our le npcs will be the main characters of this story" syndrome

Really? I didn't get that at all. The Dragon Aspects are the main characters, you're just helping them out.

What? DF is absolutely nothing like that. You're just an experienced adventurer again.

I quit already because there's really not much to do after the main storylines in each zone, gearing up past ilvl 400+, and catching up rep grinds. Professions are lackluster and pvp is about as balanced as Lizzo on a tight rope. If you're burnt out on all of that stuff....there's not really much left to fill time besides old expac content and logging out.

Shadowlands was ass for half the expansion, but it at least had a ton of casual stuff to do besides mythic+ spam and raids. The content picked up towards the end. There was OPTIONAL dailies all over the place to do (key word: optional). Blizzard neutered the world quest amounts because a portion of players whined that they felt compelled to do every single world quest per day. Blizzard's response was to nerf the amount of world quests to only twice a week, instead of doing the logical thing by reminding the hyper compulsive players they did not have to do 100% of the optional world quests on a daily basis...

Now the casual players who enjoyed having the world quests to fall back on in between downtimes of other content get screwed over on daily content because other over-compulsive players couldn't control themselves. Instead of controlling their compulsions, they demanded Blizzard just straight up remove daily content so their weak asses wouldn't feel compelled to do everything optional quest 24/7. I get it's early in the expansion, but I'm getting the impression that the current nerfed world quest rate is going to be the precedent moving on.

And Blizzard's fine with this stupidity because they want 90% of the player base shoved into mythic+ and raid meat grinder where all the money burning whales are. Unfortunately for Blizzard, most players DON'T like the current toxic formula of mythic+ and raids....because that's where all the meta junkie whales are. Ballpark figures suggest it's less than 50% of the player base bothering to deal with that content for long. Blizz figures less available side content (WQs) for casual players to do, the more likely they might dive into the mythic+ etc to be punching bags for control freak whales.

Blizzard doubled down on the mythic+ and raids formula for endgame gear despite tons of player feedback saying the systems need an overhaul so it's more inviting to the average player. Instead they caved to the demands on the not-so-average players. So I'm out. Their busted systems are just not fun for me anymore. There's other games with better time rewards with less hassle with graphics that aren't over a decade old.

Yeah leveling/questing has always been a chore and unfun. It's always all about the Raid, Mythic+. or PVP. Still having fun with that stuff.

I see your point, but I will say that a more charitable interpretation of this is that they're not dragging things out to eat up game time. The idea is that you just finish a patch's content, unsub, and come back for the next one.

... what on earth are these whales you're speaking of and how on earth do you associate them with end-game content? The cash investment of players running raid content and dungeons is literally no different than that of people just logging in to do a few side quests and bullshit in trade. Source, I wildly alternate between being either type of player and somehow my subscription fee never changed.

Four times a day WQ drops was straight up insane, and miserable for those with compulsive tendencies that don't really WANT to spend time every single day running WQs but also struggle to say no when they know WQs are up. Source, I'm one of those hyper compulsive players and being able to fart out three days worth of sidequests in an afternoon and then not give a fuck is a blessing that makes it so much easier to juggle WoW with other games I might want to play.

Yeah, if dragonflight hasn't hooked you, you may be free of WoW.

This is the most engaging, alt friendly (besides late catalyst release), and plain fun WoW has been at a launch since.....Mists? Legion was a great expansion a few patches in, but the launch was pretty awful with the bad legendary drop system and EASY ass raid.

Professions are lackluster

The rest of your post is whatever, opinions are cool. But this is just false. Professions have never been as useful or engaging as they are now.

See, this might be part of the problem: I have no fucking idea how professions work now.

I'll give it time until like next update, but it's feeling like there's less content for me as a casual player to do in Dragonflight than there was in first half of Shadowlands.

I only do mythic runs with friends and it's not an every day thing. Mythic pugs feel too toxic. The timer kills the fun for me. Friends compensate for that because they have patience. The average mythic pug does not. I don't care about raiding; the prep and group coordination is too much for me. Some of the guilds I've been in basically expected me to kiss the guild leader's ass to get into practice raids. No thanks. I just want to log in once in a while and spam dailies and sometimes pvp. Legion, BFA and Shadowlands managed to hit that spot for me. If they return to dailies in Dragonflight I'll stay interested. Otherwise I think I'll bounce. I'll miss my paladin, druid, and monk, but other games have funner classes now.

i mean, yeah the pug life is fucking atrocious unless you are predisposed to thrive in a goddamn train wreck. raiding and M+ is a blast if you actually have friends to play with and can all be on the same page but pugging can fucking ruin it.

Well yeah. If you're not a fan of mythic+, raiding, or pvp...I just can't recommend WoW for you. That's where all roads eventually lead by Blizzard's dusty old design. And I notice all 3 of those have a notable chance of dealing with asshole players that fit the grungy old WoW player stereotype.

I get what casual players who try WoW mean when they say "toxic playerbase". They have a point. And I know where you're going to find the worst offenders: exactly where Blizzard's design sends you. Not everyone has a friend group available 24/7, especially working class adults. It's not really a valid solution for everybody, more like a band-aid to an archaic design.

And I get how that all ties in with a lot of casual players enjoying soloable pve content instead (like world quests). I've been there. It's not an uncommon trend in the game now. However, I also play the game with my husband who keeps it engaging for me. Having someone to play with keeps me interested. Having in-game buddies are how you alleviate the occasional run-ins with toxic players.

If busy life makes it hard for you to play with regular buddies online, WoW is a dinosaur you're probably better off forgetting. My husband and I like dinosaurs. We can deal with (and privately laugh at) the angry cavemen in pugs and Captain Ahabs in raids, but totally understand not every gamer wants to do that when there's shiner titles out there now. When the game isn't entertaining you anymore, it's time to move on.

I figured I'd at least go through the raid on LFR and I'd forgotten how fucking annoying it was that it slaps you into one that already has a boss dead, thus necessitating that you queue for it twice.
