Hes being moved into his new room in Dignity Lane. Im having a panic attack, mostly anxiety over what happens after hes gone. I mean with the estate. Ive never had to deal with one before. Lol

And I have to figure out how to get rid of that couch...

Wow I imagine dealing with an estate is a headache even in the best of circumstances...

Technically Im apart of 5 now

Grandmother in law
Father in law
Mother in law
Grandfather
Father (when the time comes)

Gmil I dont really need to do anything. But my wife is getting 25%... and maybe more, of that estate.

Fil was never done by mother in law so we need to hire a lawyer

Mil I still have to file some paperwork

Grandfather I dont have to do anything but I now own 25% of his house.

And then Ill be dealing with my dads directly... lol

Yikes. My dad actually was minimal on assets, so there hasn't been an estate to sort out. Even then the scam collection attempts can put me on edge.

A small speaking-out-loud thing (not to make it about me). Today is one year exactly after my dad passed. Time/hindsight has shifted perspective a slight bit since it's become more familiar. Maybe one key takeaway I had is that there's no asking questions or seeking answers at some point (about him). Any time that I pick up something new, is through passing when an older family member recalls something.

The mindset that still sticks is just trying to paint a clearer picture of what it was like in his shoes when he was my age, and fatherhood just begun for him. What decisions he made and what drove them; where he was and was not confident; what was he thinking about on his own time between fatherhood and working. It's a little bit of personal understanding of him - never to actually change my relationship and perception of him - but I'd say it's also heavily an understanding of the world he was living in. I don't think I'd really learn anything in a way that would benefit me, but it'd be nice to know about that time with clarity. It's a bit of self-centered thinking: what was the world before and as I came into being?

No worries. This is a place to talk about whatever. What I do know about my dad when he was young I dont really want to necessarily know. Ive found out some questionable things, but theyre not things I can change or do anything about. And theres some other questions I have but theyre pure speculation.

My dad has always been pretty cagey at the best of times. They keep asking me how hes been doing for the past year and its like, other than the fact he was ambulatory but didnt want to leave the house, theres not much I can tell you. Was he in pain? No idea. Was he depressed or suicidal? No idea. He basically never talks about his feelings.

Yesterday I did get another part of his final affairs in order. How I did it can be challenged but I dont think it will be. I still need to file his taxes but Im having a hard time getting to the last form I need.

Well fun times... kind of doubt it. Lol. Im bored as fuck there.

Today I was working on the family list for the obit. >_>

I dont want him to die or anything, and I think the doctors may have been premature in sending him down to hospice. But its actually a better environment. And the nurses seem more... careful and gentle in their approach. The ICU step down ward theyre more zealous and wanting to get things done. They had him on haldol so they could clean him up and he wouldnt fight back and I think thats why he was so lethargic for a couple of days. He was hungry all day today.

Well, Im not vindictive, and I dont hate him. I dont feel anything about him, or much about anyone else either. He was and still is a cruel man, yes. But he will die in his own time, and Im better than him so I dont want him to needlessly suffer.

I dont know about incorruptible, but yeah. My father cant hurt anymore. And in his way has made attempts to atone for what he did, without ever actually acknowledging it.

But its also Im so fucked in the head that an apology wouldnt even matter to me. And if he told me he never wanted to see me again I would turn around and walk away without a second thought.

Howd my day go you ask? (Im not ragging on you or anything Im just being rhetorical), oh my dad was calling out for mommy and daddy, yelled at Jimmy for not having blackberries we didnt know he wanted, and then he slept the rest of the time. So it could be soon...

Donald and I decided to go get sushi and when I got to the car I had a flat.

But I got thar swapped with the doughnut. Got home and went and had some good sushi.

And actually, I kind of needed that. Had a good dinner with one brother the other didnt want to come with. We went to one of those places that has the belt and you can grab what you want but they also have touch screens to order stuff. My wife never had sushi and now she has. I like it more than she does but she enjoyed some of it.

Tire issues annoy me. Technically the spare isn't meant to last long.

Yeah, the timeline can been sooner or later. I'm not sure what goes into it, but my dad sounded semi-better/active right before he was really going. I personally wondered if my dad knew that was coming, when he gave me that sincere call that to this day I'll always feel was too short for our lifetimes.

Yeah its not uncommon for someone to suddenly seem better before they pass. That coupled with him calling out to his parents isnt a great sign for him. But if it happens he will be out of pain soon. I was able to convince him to let them medicate him so he could sleep better.

FUCKING FLAT TIRE

lol.good thing I know how to change it.

Managed to get out for a nice sushi dinner. Wifes reactions were mixed but she also tried the salmon roe which I didnt. She hated it. But she likes the smaller bites. I had I think a yellow tail with yuzu and I really liked it but it was too much raw fish at once for her. She was able to get a food bowl of spicy miso ramen she really liked.

Had a good time just talking with my brother for a bit. Really needed a night out.

Right now Im waiting on my car being fixed and Im having all the tires checked to make sure I didnt pick up any more screws. Then back to see dad.

As shit as things have been, this year could be looking up. Just talked to my wifes aunt about that estate and its getting close to selling. Like maybe in the next couple of weeks. And instead of 1/4 shes getting 1/3rd now... because the uncle who was squatting on the land has finally been evicted... and hes in jail, most likely for the rest of his life, is being sued for rent for all that time because he refuses to leave. So it wipes out his share

I'm so sorry. My dad is 82 and not in the best of health. I'm waiting for something bad to happen. And my mom died last year in her 70's. One year ago yesterday, actually. When we're young we think our parents will be around forever but it's just not the case and for some of us that realization is devastating. It is for me, I know.

I don't know what I'm trying to say here other than I am so sorry about your dad and I feel what you're going through. You have to stay strong and keep on going, as clich as it sounds. You must carry on his legacy.

Got some nice ones there. I was right about the Marlin 30-30 it looks like. And those older Marlins were gorgeous. I much MUCH prefer the look of them to the more modern ones like i have. They just look mass produced.

The real keeper is that Remington 7400. Its not worth a ton of money (the Marlin 30-30 is probably the most valuable), but a semi auto 30-06 is a cool gun and will always have a wow factor to it.

For the shotgun, there is always a market for Ithaca stuff. More for the M37 (thats the one everyone wants), but a Model 51 is still nice for fucking around and target shooting.

As for the 22, there is not much to say. Garden variety and dirt cheap. Still good to plink or pop squirrels with. Looks to be in good shape.

Not bad over all. If you plan on keeping them, just make sure your safe has a dehumidification system in it. You can get moisture absorbing cans for cheap these days

I think Im going to keep the .22 and the shotgun. My brothers have both said they want some of them. One wants the 30-30 for hunting and the one one still shoots and will take any no one else wants.

Im not worried about the value, really. Even though one said hed pay for them. But I wont take money. The kids are allowed to have any possession they want and Im getting the house to at least live in. Lol.

I would have kept the 30-30 because thats what I used to hunt with, but I wont use it for hunting so Id rather it go for someone who wants to use it. The .22 is a pop gun. Ill use it just for target practice.

Maybe, just maybe he's reached the point of remorse.

I think that's what it was like with my dad. 3 weeks in the hospital away from the everyday noise let him take a step back. Maybe he also made out the end was sooner than later.

Maybe, but he hasn't expressed anything like that. He's acting more like he wants sympathy. He's not always lucid either.

Whats his mental state like? When my grandad was in hospital before he died he slowly became more and more broken mentally. Started with just conspiracy about nurses trying to hurt him and wanting to go home and by the end was just shouting until one day he just stopped like hed had a mental breakdown and that was it. He was there and conscious but no one was home as it were. Awful to see.
