Wtf? I agree with your wife.

And I'm not married, but my girlfriend and I are both picky eaters, so I doubt we'll have any food disagreements in the future.

He hates garlic and onions and theyre cooking staples for me. I just have to chop them small enough so he doesnt notice or else he will complain.

He loves really basic food like hotdogs and canned chili beans which I find disgusting.

Im a food snob and hes the opposite.

I like to enjoy my food and Im a foodie. He sees food as a mean of survival and nothing more.

I'm only technically married (separated roughly a year and a half ago and I haven't had the time/means to file), but when I was with my ex:

She hated lima beans. I liked them. One of my go-to meals was mashed potatoes with vegetables. I would make lima beans for myself and corn or green beans for her. She weirdly picked on me for liking lima beans. Not in a cutesy way, but in a "this is a serious character deficit" way.

She became a vegetarian eight years into our relationship. I bent over backwards to accommodate that. I would only buy meat alternatives (even though I thought most of them tasted awful). I would scrutinize every single ingredients list to make sure it was okay for her to eat. I learned to (and often did) prepare tofu for her.

Any time she would pick up the groceries, she would get something wrong. She'd get sugar free creamer when she knows I hate it. Ice cream flavors with cherry in it. White bread when I always eat wheat. It was all stuff that, at the time, I tried to chock up to, "She's doing her best," but looking back, it was because she just really didn't care.

She also liked pineapple on pizza. That should have been the first red flag, now that I think about it.

My partner is Jewish so she doesn't eat pork or shellfish, which is mostly fine except that it results in me getting pork almost every time we eat out.

The big thing is she's mildly allergic to rice and that causes me a lot of headaches in my cooking.

There's a lot but it boils down to she's extremely picky and doesn't enjoy cooking, I love to cook so it's difficult when she's so picky.

I don't get bent out of shape about it just wish we could branch out more and try some different things.

I dont think we have disagreements. He follows a very low carb diet so if what I make doesnt work for him, hes on his own.

I personally have enough to watch for because of the food intolerances & allergies the kids and I have. No potatoes, tomatoes, peppers. Minimal dairy (I wont compromise on butter, but dont use milk or cheese, kids get bad gas from dairy) and no onions and very minimal garlic (both give me horrendous gas).

  • He dislikes seafood, I enjoy it.
  • He likes crunchy foods, I like soft.
  • He loves spicy foods, I don't. My tastebuds aren't fried.
  • He sometimes craves extravagant dining meals once in a while, I don't...I could live off the same simple foods forever. When we go out, it's mostly for him. I just go as company. He understands this and prefers to pay for our meals, even when I offer to pay. I had an issue with that at first, but gave in for his comfort.
  • He's not good with cooking, I am and it's not unusual I fix us different dishes. It's what we do at restaurants anyway. He enjoys what I prepare. So does his mother who is a tough judge.
My husband and I had disagreements early on and I compensated by making different dishes the norm, including when his mother visits. Between the 3 of us and the occasional visit from relatives, it's manageable. Their kids eat what's given or go hungry. When they want to be punks, they can catch McDonald's on the way home.

My kitchen, my rules.

My wife eats cottage cheese and ketchup.

After 21 years, most of our other ones are gone.

Im a pretty picky eater. I dont do tomato chunks in most things, Ill blend my salsa to a smoother consistency sometimes. I used to never eat lettuce but Ive gotten better about salads. But not on tacos or burgers.

My wife when I met her didnt know how to eat. She would only eat well done steaks and burgers. Fully cooked eggs. Things like that.

I had to each her how to actually eat. One time when we lived with her family, her grandma made hamburgers... which where burnt to fuck, left to go cold, and then served.

Her mother considered herself a good/great cook... one time she made linguini with ketchup.

No spices. No seasonings. Linguini and ketchup.

She wont eat leftovers and grew up cooking for like 8 people, so she will make obscene amounts of food.

I hate food going to waste, so I have to eat the same thing for every meal for days.

I can use it on my portions but I have to make some marker (example, make a notch in burgers). She has a visceral reaction to cinnamon but that one I can get along with.

I can't do fish. I had a completely unrelated stomach illness shortly after eating salmon a few years back and now I'm mentally averse to it. She used to enjoy fish dinners at home.

I absolutely cannot stand olives. The most vile things to ever exist. This one doesn't require much compromise though. If we share or make a dish that has olives, I can just remove them and give them to her.
