I have never played these games so I've been very interested, but I didn't even realize the game had released. I feel like nobody is talking about it at all?

Looking at reviews, it seems they're saying it's aged poorly even in the form of the remake. If that doesn't matter to you, it's a more accessible version of Front Mission 1. I've only played 3, which was pretty clunky itself, but I liked it.

Looked into it, and yeah from what I see there's no actual issue with the remake, FM1 is just supposedly bad? I barely ever followed the series at all so I guess I never knew! I know FM3 is, like, the golden child or something, so hopefully it holds on until then.

I know they did patch a lot of the issues these games had at launch, but I havne't tried them myself yet. I think a lot of people were disappointed that they were just 1 to 1 remakes and nothing really new in them other than the graphics

Front Mission 2 remake isn't even out yet.

But yeah, the main complaint is that it's a very faithful remake of FM1, with very few QoL upgrades, and it should've had more. From what I've seen, FM2 is where the series is supposed to get good?

Also, a different studio is apparently handling the FM2 remake, so we have no clue how that'll turn out.

Have played the DS version of Front Mission 1, can confirm at least that version of it is just kind of okay. A more modern but still faithful remake is not likely to notably improve on that.

FM1 is fine. Its just super dated in every aspect. Its told like an old NES/early SNES game and the gameplay is a good framework for what the series becomes but lacks things to make actually interesting scenarios.

Really weird they didnt update it more thoroughly because like, the basis of the plot is pretty decent its just told fairly dryly and a rewritten script could have made it quite good. Same for a gameplay overhaul.
