Windows 8.1 support has ended so its now a dead OS. Now only recent versions of Windows 10, and Windows 11 are supported.

Windows 8 sucked but Windows 8.1 was fine from memory. The start screen was trash though

8 was great and the start screen was so much better than that archaic start menu

Even 11's start menu is better than that trash

Wasn't Win 8 the "touchscreen even if you don't have one" Start?
That was terrible.

A trash start screen that takes up the entire monitor and requires extra clicks or button presses wasnt ever worth implementing

Taking up the entire screen is a good thing. It's more space to organize stuff, and it only requires one click to open your program and have the screen go away.

The old start menu is the one where you have to click a whole bunch to sift through cluttered folders in folders in folders

You dont need a whole screen to organise the 2-3 max results from what you are searching. I never used the desktop so I never used the metro start screen as a desktop replacement. I never click anything if I dont have to, I only search and hit enter, and windows 8 completely breaks that workflow if what you were searching for wasnt specifically an installed application. Search for local users and groups for instance and you have to click away from the applications search results and into the settings search results or whatever, turning what used to be a few key presses in under a second, into a multi-second task requiring both the mouse and keyboard.

and folders are way better for organisation than whatever the fuck the tiles were supposed to be

I guess if you remember the specific exact names of stuff plus it was in the path environment variable thats fine, but with the windows 7 start menu you can search by display name so it was still inherently better

I have my tiles properly organized so I don't have to search all of the time, saving significant amounts of time and effort not needing to type so much

You use one computer and put time and effort into setting that up. Its still inferior to a functional start menu with a proper search function consistent across all computers. You dont seem like the power user type either or working in the IT industry.
