I just got to st Ursula hospital so Im a fair bit in. According to the walkthrough Im following Im right at the end of chapter 1 of 3 (plus finale). But so far its been linear and I guess it opens up soon.

I like talking to all the NPCs, so Im guessing I have to travel all over erebonia each story progression, is this game gonna be like 400 hours long?

About 100 if you rush and skip everything. Maybe 500 if you are going for 100% and use a guide.

Seriously 500? I dont think the other games were even 20 hours if you rushed and skipped them

Thats if you are going for total completion of every little thing. All the other cold steel games were at least over 100 if you did everything.

My Cold Steel 4 file is at about 88 hours and i would say im about 75% done. Ive done a fair bit of exploring and grinding, but nowhere near 100%.

I dont care about achievements, i just talk to all the NPCs every time and get all the chests and do all the side quests etc

My save file with 95% sidequest completion clocked in about 81 hours.
A good chunk of time is spent on menus. You have so many characters, equipment, accessories, quartz, master quartz, and your mecha to swap around if you just let the game auto equip and focus on one or two character's broken builds it saves a lot of time.

Playing on Nightmare and trying to beat bosses that you're allowed to lose to adds up a lot of time too due to more prep work and grinding.

im at like 50 hours and ive just reached mishalem >.> but not way its 500 hours right

Cold Steel 4 has the biggest script in the entire series because of all the NPC dialogue. My save file clocks in around 300 hours I believe? I did everything though.

Absolutely. There are 20 weekends between now and June. If you put 13 hours in every Saturday and Sunday, you'll hit 500 hours before the first Saturday in June.

But you won't need 500 hours if you're not doing everything. I have 115 hours clocked on Steam and that's from 1 playthrough, not on nightmare.

all the NPCs every time they change their dialogue, and every side quest. Thats probably the bulk of it. But I wouldnt be doing multiple play through a or going for platinum

im on nightmare as well but have only had difficulty with 1 boss so far

I talked to every NPC in every location every time the dialogue changed and I also did every side quest. I didn't skip dialogue, didn't use the speed up, and I played on Nightmare.
