The human butt has long been the object of all manner of obsessions. We worry over it: its size, its shape, whether or not it has cellulite on it, how it looks in a pair of jeans. But now, a new source of concern emerges: the alarming possibility that ones butt or at least, ones relationship to butts generally is racist.

Alright so, I looked over that article and a few others, and from I can tell, the book just does a very deep dive on the history of humanity's obsession with butts (it's a 250 page book).

I don't think the intent is to call it racist to like big butts. But she does go into detail about different points in history. And one involved an African woman that was captured by Europeans in the 18th century and taken back to Europe where spectators could pay to gawk at, and pinch, her big butt. But the book also explores the misogyny and shame surrounding women's bodies throughout history and how it's forced women to do things like starvation diets, sterilization and surgeries.

It seems like the writer at unherd, just chose to be extraordinarily offended by that specific part of the book.
