I decided the drive around to see if I could see anything. I went to the gas station down the street and saw a similar car, but there were some people standing around it. I didn't want to approach. Then as I was about to go home, the exact car (I don't think it was the same one I saw) was stopped in the middle of the street at the corner and the police were looking at it. Apparently the car was out of gas so the thieves went to the gas station to fill up. Then they deserted it in the road because they couldn't turn off the car alarm.

The neighbors who own the car came by and confirmed that was their car. Interesting way to meet your neighbors.

I initially read that as cat instead of car. I was intially more outraged.

It seemed fine at first, but there has apparently been an uptick in vehicle break-ins and theft in the neighborhood in the past month or so. The neighborhood has a group chat going so we can help look out for each other now.
