im scared to run the dishwasher or shower right now, am i being irrational or should i actually worry? It's not super loud and doesnt last for long, but I've been noticing it since we tried draining it a few days ago. When we tried draining it, not much water came out. After turning it back on it started the whistling.

its electric, not gas btw

If you don't have enough water pressure to fill the entire tank, the heating element could be overworking.

If the tank is full it could be a broken but still running element. I've had both happen,so just a suggestion.

Edit: If the pressure is fine you have a rusted hole in the top or a leak somewhere.
