I just don't see how that's possible when the PS5 has no games.

I think it wont, but the PS6 will.

It's the Wii U of video games.

It has the advantage of having a year longer lifespan, but the disadvantage of the Series being much more competitive than the One. Not sure.

Edit: sales after 25 months were almost 36 million for PS4 and over 30 million for PS5. Not a huge difference so far, but PS5 is definitely behind a bit.

The PS4 also spent its early years against the WiiU while the PS5 has to deal with the Switch. IIRC the PS4 was competitive with the WiiU in Japan but the PS5 is likely getting trounced by the Switch even after supply issues get resolved.

That's how each console sold in its 111th week in Japan and LTD sales. PS5 sales are lower, but not enough to make a big difference in the end (PS5 will likely sell less than 1 million less than PS4 in Japan, which sold a bit under 8 million units).

Oh, I thought the PS4 was doing better and the PS5 doing worse in Japan.
