As McCarthy concedes to each ridiculous, untenable, undeliverable demand, they just invent a new one. We've been saying for decades that this is what the Republican party/conservatism has become, now they're feeling it.

There's no long term way out of this and it's only going to get worse as the people who were molded by the right wing information echo chamber increasingly begin to take office.

If I was an American, I wouldn't celebrate. Because as long as the house of representatives is unable to govern thanks to this shitshow, it would affect my life, my own personal interests negatively as well.

If anything, it only shows what a clown party the GOP is. And it shows, that some of its members are clearly not interested in doing their goddamn job. People like Gaetz, Boebert and Biggs are unable to take responsibility for their actions and have shown countless times that they are against basic democratic principles. Who knows, they might even be on a Russian payroll?

So if anything, I hope some moderates finally wake up and stop voting for the personal cult party, and finally choose to support the democrats that wants to bring the country back to a better future.

You think that with a Dem Senate/President that the Republican Speaker is going to make any progress happen? His job will be to literally block any legislation being made by other party. No real progress there. Speaker in that position just stalls until next election.

Not to give Hannity too much credit but I do think he's right to a certain extent. The Freedom Caucus can say "you don't have the votes" as much as they want (and logistically they're correct) but it doesn't make any more sense for 90% of Republicans to have to bend to their will either since they also don't have the votes for anything.

If you leave a blank 2nd choice, you're considered not present.

May result in McCarthy being the Speaker, but it would at least make the US look like less of a joke right now.

Ranked Choice Voting in this instance doesn't "solve" anything that requiring only a plurality wouldn't. This is all strategic voting, if a vote against KMC had imminent consequences of Hakeem Jefferies becoming speaker, you wouldn't have 20 people voting against him.

Also most parliamentary systems "require" a majority to be formed through a coalition of parties and once that coalition breaks new elections tend to follow. Which is why it's reasonable to want the speaker to by default be chosen by a majority, because without majority support the Speaker is dramatically limited in what they have the ability to do anyway.

The only "embarrassing" part is that they don't seem to be making *any* deals between votes at all which leads to identical votes.
