amazing news.

Surprised it took this long but today someone complained about the 'result' of their fantasy football match in league group chat.

We haven't even decided anything and their reaction was entirely based on ESPN progressing the game week. And if they had even scrolled up like 3 lines in chat they would have seen the suggested outcome, that wasn't finalized, did not screw them over (this is a shit league that plays the championship game in week 18 so I suggested a 3 way final since that match was projected to be within a point and the other semi final was a blowout)

Still deciding what to do in the other league too. But it's harder to be impartial as the final involves myself.

Situation is Team A (Me) +22.8 points vs Team B Dawson Knox. Knox averages 9.2 points in that league and his high score for the season is 21.8 points. The highest scoring available TE (or even Flex) on waivers for the week scored 20.8 points.

So my viewpoint is that whilst technically possible for Team B to win, it was very unlikely and even if I let him grab the best available player off waivers he would have still lost. However, I recognize there was still technically a chance he could have won so I propose the title still goes to me but the prize pot be revised from $1000/$400 to $800/$600.

That sounds fair right?

I think it's to make the 1 seed less important, since Buffalo was playing for it.

Yeah, they need to make the decision before the Chiefs/Raiders game.

I saw someone make the suggestion of give the 1 seed the option of getting a bye or getting home field.

Also saw another suggesting any game between Bills / Bengals / Chiefs be played on a neutral site to remove the home field advantage the higher seed normally gets.

I don't think there's an easy solution though unless results this weekend make the outcome not matter (which seems unlikely)

It's harsh but I think I'd just make the score at the time of the stoppage the final score. It feels especially cruel to the Bills but I don't know how else you really resolve this.

Thats what I said earlier in the thread! I know its not great but at least its based on in game action.

Setting the precedent that if you can manage to (within nfl rules) murder someone on the other team, you can get a game called is not something I want to see

I'm ok with a neutral site AFC Championship game.

Expanding to 8 teams is chaos.

Also Washington would also be un-eliminated and would need a win + a Seahawks loss.

Jets would need a win + a Steelers loss.

neutral site for AFC champ game does not help the greater advantage of 1st round bye. I think 8 seeded tourney would make more sense, keep home field advantage as is. I also think it makes no sense to adjust the NFC playoff picture at all.

Actually the Jets need the Pats to WIN as well.

If the Pats are involved in a 4 way tiebreaker at 8-9 I believe the Steelers get the 7 and the Pats get the 8.

I'm ecstatic to see the good news regarding Damar. So happy he's been able to make some semblance of a recovery, and it's wholesome for him to ask who won the game.

I don't completely understand why they'd expand this to 8 games over this, since the Bills and Bengals were playing to determine AFC seeding, nothing more. They were both already in no matter what and weren't going to eliminate anyone else with this setup unless there's some quadruple tiebreaker needed.

Also, this is probably a good time to mention that I'm very curious as to how Damar Hamlin will affect the league going forward. After the Korey Stringer incident, the NFL changed a ton of policies regarding training camp, and did everything in their power to ensure that it wouldn't happen again. Are they going to similarly make changes to ensure there isn't another incident like this? And if so, what will those be? I obviously don't want anything like this to happen again. I hope the NFL sees it the same way, even if their motivations are $$$.

Ok, just saw an article on NFL website, apparently an 8 team playoff isn't even on the table.

The proposals involve neutral sites for AFC championship under certain conditions and possibility of Baltimore getting a coin flip to play their first playoff game at home if its against Cincy and if they win on Sunday.

Their emphasis was not disrupting other teams as much as possible.

they should just play Bengals/Ravens in Pittsburgh and only allow Steelers fans to attend so both sides get incessantly booed the entire game

Apparently they can't even do the 8 team thing without collective bargaining it with the players union.

I didn't hear anything about the coin flip scenario but the Bengals are going to maim the Ravens anyway so it's not like that one matters.

One of these days I hope talking heads will stop with the "they've got nothing to play for" narrative for why a team isn't going to try hard to win. I'm not sure how many times we need to see a team fighting for the playoffs get eliminated by a bad team before people stop doing this.

I think that only applies to teams like the Giants who are totally locked up and never applies to bad teams.

Some guys on bad teams have checked out sure, but others are playing for their jobs.

There are certain bad teams that are pretty clearly not trying to win, but these teams also aren't trying to win by like week 12 either. And like you've said, there are plenty of non-playoff teams still trying and lots of examples of non-playoff teams eliminating bubble teams the last couple weeks of the season. Like, every year it happens. And then every year we have to endure the same end of year discussion from talking heads and then getting shock Pikachu face'd when Washington loses to Cleveland or something.

A Bengals win a few years back sent Buffalo to the playoffs for the first time in decades, yeah.

Oh, absolutely not. But it works against the "wah teams with nothing to play for" narrative imo when a team with "nothing to play for" eliminated a playoff contender literally last week!

I've seen plenty of teams quit before, but that tends to happen by mid season instead of the very last couple of weeks.

It's usually individual players who quit rather than entire teams, but sometimes it is the team.

What makes Texans/Colts so hard to pick is these are clearly teams who have checked out and just want the suffering to end. It is impossible for that game to have any final score that surprises me.

The Texans were looking "sort of ok but still awful" then didn't even bother showing up to the game against the Jaguars last week.

Also if I make the playoffs my lack of faith in Carson Wentz will be a huge reason why, so thanks for eliminating yourselves Commies~

Washington should never have Wentz there etc. etc.

For the record they were only favored by 2 at home after the QB change, which indicates they were considered the worse team anyway.
