I occasionally wear a shirt with a US flag on to try and fool people into thinking that I love this country when I really loathe a lot of the corrupt bullshit and so some strangers don't automatically assume I'm a illegal immigrant cause certain people in my neighborhood are racist as fuck. Some still do it anyway because they take pride in their ignorance. I usually time it around the 4th of July, 9/11 and Veterans Day. The far right seems to have hijacked it as a symbol of their beliefs, which yes, does sometimes include racism, I suppose.
