Current Events > Going to paint a cabinet in my front room and I have a few questions.

First, what is the best way to keep the animals out of the way? I know the cat and the dog are going to be all up in our shit while we are trying to paint.

Second what all do I need? Were going to Lowes today and Ive got a list of

Gallon of cabinet paint
paint brush
paint roller/pan
paint tape
drop cloth

If anyone has any extra tips or advice it would be appreciated, Thanks!

Put the pets in in a bedroom

Don't forget to take the hinges off

Remove everything like handles and hinges to get a good clean look.

For the pets, kennel them temporarily in an area away from the paint fumes.

Ya Ive taken all the hinges/handles off. Even though the dipshits that owned the house before us painted the cabinet with the hinges on so they already have paint on them.

Ya I guess I can put my dog in the kennel I just feel bad because I feel like this is going to take all day to paint. The cat Ill put in the bedroom, she wont care.

Havent bought anything yet

Remove from hinges
Wash with a good cleaner, degreaser, or even dish soap. Rinse with clean water and let dry
Scuff sand it
Prime it
Fine sand it
Coat it with trim paint (don't use regular wall paint, if you're in a state where you can get oil you can use this, there are also hybrid and urethane enamel coatings that are more expensive but will be better)
Do a second coat it with the trim paint

I'm not familiar with all of Valspar's products (despite SW buying them a few years back, we only sell that line in Lowe's), but looking at the PDS it should be more than fine

For real when I came to CE asking for painting advice I didnt think that a SW manager would show up to give me advice.

So we got the cabinet painted. Just letting everything dry so we can put it back together which will probably be in the morning.

I forgot how much I hate painting lol. Im so bad at cutting in so the corners look like shit. Plus my arm is so tired, I dont know how people do this for a living.
