Mine just loves climbing up and down anything

my wife got these little toddler chairs and he just climbs up on them, stands up and claps, climbs back down, back and forth. Makes me so nervous

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/9/5/2/AAW8UqAAEJIA.jpg
Haha she does the same with her chair too but shes fallen a few times and learned to stop.

Does he climb your dining table? We have to tie the chairs together because she pulls them out and gets on top of the table. We also had to stow our barstools in the garage because she was climbing those and getting to the kitchen counter.

The stairs are just annoying because I want to get somewhere and not stand around on the stairs for hours. She just stands there and refuses to go all the way up or down.

Small food success. I made beef bulgogi. At first she didnt want it even with her bbq sauce but then she ate it. And then she ate another portion without any bbq sauce. She loved it!

first week of stay at home dad-ing done

we went to a couple open play sessions at some local places. Played outside in the snow one day

feels a little weird being the only dad amongst a bunch of moms but its still fun, hes really sweet at this age (14 months). Just learning how to give hugs and kisses, babbling starting to sound like words. Its a good time

We tried to go to H&R Block to file taxes but we had to bring her with us and it was a huge pain. Hard to get her to sit that whole time. I took her out to walk around the little center. Several ladies stopped to gawk and say how cute she was though and one insisted I needed to sign her up for modeling.

Yeah we have a gate too. But shes 28 lbs now and its getting to be a lot for me to carry her up and down all the time. She can go up and down fine on her own (with us behind her to catch her in case). But she just refuses to go all the way and then wants to play on the staircase. She will often get to the last step and stop there and just stand around its annoying.

My husband took our girl on a hike again to give me a break. I appreciate the sentiment and trying not to nag but I dont know how I can take a break when the house is a mess, dirty pots in the sink since Friday, Sunday is laundry day, toys are everywhere, etc. Ive pretty much spent the last 5 hours doing laundry and cleaning. Im so exhausted. I want him to have some time with her though. So I just didnt say anything when he said he wanted to give me a break lol

Were always playing music in our house, and its so funny seeing what he reacts to.

He loves some of the music from his kids toys, like he was headbanging to Old McDonald the other day

but he also seems to like higher energy rock music. This song came up in the shuffle today and he stopped what he was doing to dance to it. He bounces, bobs his head, and pounds his chest. Not what Id call a kids song but hes into it

another song he got really into was this one:

Lol this is true for us as well but I dont consider myself a neat freak either. I just need things to be tidy and put away. It doesnt have to be spotless. A messy house gives me anxiety. We have a house cleaner every other week for all the deep cleaning stuff. Im trying to arrange my morning schedule to give myself 30 minutes every day to tidy things up so they dont pile like they have been. Well see how it goes!

She woke up in a mood today. Just screeching at me. Screamed at me the whole time I changed her diaper. Insisted on trying to dress herself today which I tried to give her the space to do. But we dont have all day. She was walking around with one arm in her sleeve and the other not. After a few minutes of gently showing her the other sleeve I just pushed her arm through and she screamed her head off and cried for several minutes like I just murdered her pet. My OBGYN yesterday told me terrible 2s are a lie and it really starts at 18 months. Its been so true for us.

Shes having more moody days. Even the daycare teacher commented that shes been more sensitive than usual. Yesterday she had a meltdown because she ate a whole pack of raspberries and wanted more but we didnt have any. So we cut her up some strawberries and she wasnt having it. Just full on screaming and a look on her face like we told her the cats died or something. I usually try to explain things gently to her and then redirect her which usually works but lately I just need to let her cry some before I attempt that. Such a little girl trying to navigate big emotions.

After that though we all lied down together on the couch to unwind for the evening and she insisted on me and my husband being next to each other and kept cuddling and kissing us both. She is a sweet kid most of the time. I know these tantrums are developmentally normal even though they are a huge pain.

We arent at full on temper tantrums but we are at him getting very upset if you take something he wants away from him, or if you dont give him cookies or peanut butter when he wants. At this stage its easy to distract him

starting to see him play pretend more, my wife got a little people house and hell take two people and move them around the house, its very fun to watch his development in real time (being a stay at home dad and all)

Holy shit I finally put her to bed awake and she settled herself down with no crying. She was always a great sleeper but around 14-15 months she suddenly hated being put down in the crib. She would always scream at the top of her lungs and fight me as I put her in. Shed cry after I left the room, 1 minute tops before she went to sleep. My husband took over most of the bedtime routine because it was killing my back. But I finally did the routine tonight and put her down and she sat quietly as I left the room. Looked at the monitor and she went to sleep. Success!

Yeah thats what she was like before. Very easy to redirect. It started to change around 18 months and the tantrums started to get more frequent, longer and a little harder to redirect. Still manageable and some days are better than others.

Cherish this time you have with him! The layoff is shitty but also a blessing in disguise. This time when theyre little is so short.

it didnt work, hes still too short

it's funny, the past couple days hes been experimenting with silly walks. Sometimes hell crouch down and walk in a crouched position, sometimes hell swing his arms back and forth exaggerated, sometimes he does tiny stomp steps

interesting to see him try new things just because he realized he can

Awww the early wobbly attempts at climbing the stairs like a big kid are hilarious. But also terrifying. My daughter refuses to hold our hand and I used to be so scared shed fall. She didnt even want me near her to catch her. I had to be a couple of steps away just ready to jump if I needed. Does he let you help him?

My daughter did the same thing with the funny walks! She still does. These weird crouchy walk with her arms at angles behind her back that are so funny like shes trying to sneak around or something.

I did like the facility, but they only offer full time care and were only going to need 3 days a week.

so well likely need to keep looking. Wed basically be giving them an extra $700 a month for free.

Fiance only gets 6/8 weeks of maternity leave depending on delivery. Wish she got longer, gonna be weird putting our little guy in daycare so early.

but its tough when she basically doubles my salary. Wish she could stay home for 12 weeks.

My mom lives an hour away but she is going to watch one day a week once I start working. But there are six grandchildren in my family so she cant do more than that.

My wife found a dental office a couple blocks from our house that was hiring for a part time, one day/week position which works out perfect

I have a pretty promising final interview next week, it sounds like if I dont bomb it Im their guy so my days as a stay at home dad might be numbered

I was filling taxes and noticed that there is a tax credit for childcare fees. But the credit is 20-35% of however much you spent on childcare..but the cost of childcare is a max of $3000.

So you get a credit of 20-35% of $3000 only. So $600 minimum.
Like, who spends only 3k on childcare.

We paid our nanny under the table, most in our area insist on it and refused payroll when we offered. But it was like $3000 a month. Daycare for our daughter $1335 a month. Its a Montessori that has a toddler program for 18 months-36 months (many dont) and I dont know why its so affordable. I called a few other daycares around the area that were $2100-2400. Its also a 30 second drive away from our house. It worked out perfect. Im too scared to ask them why their rate is so good lol

[LFAQs-redacted-quote]

Shes too young for laces but she does put her own shoes on and they are Velcro. She knows how to close the straps. My daughter is fiercely independent so these are things she wants to do and we give her space to try things on her own. Though if were in a hurry we might have to step in.

I feel like parents now are confusing gentle parenting with permissive parenting. They dont want to give their kids any authority or direction at all. They allow all sorts of bad behaviors and their kids are behind on becoming independent. I dont understand this because they are holding their kids back this way.

She woke up this morning suddenly saying so many new sentences. Its so funny its like it was just downloaded in her mind.

I took her in my bed when she woke up around 3 am. I rarely do this she usually puts herself back to sleep. She slept great but then woke up at 6 am and said she was hungry. I told her mama wants to sleep and she said wake up mama

We went down to get milk and she closed the gate and said close the door

I changed her diaper and she was holding the new one and said I have diaper

Then she wanted to wake up her dad and said wake up daddy

After that she saw my phone and grabbed it, gave it to me and said take this bye

All of these are things she has never said before. Like she went to sleep and her mind processed some things.
