Brother asked me what i wanted for xmas, so i asked for this since it's on sale...He must be laughing his ass off at me right now. He should have gave me hooker if i wanted to get fucked so badly!

I didn't wanna be that guy since it's like a meme, but fuck it's tough on you. If I didn't stream myself playing on discord I still wouldn't have found a maiden, got a mount, or even knew I couldn't level up till i did!

I respect a game not holding my hand for once as that design made me a worse gamer than i was as a kid, but this shit is going to the other extreme, and a complete nightmare for the directional challenged. I'll give it this...The game has a way of rewarding every risk you take, and every thing you do even in my opening hours, so it has a way of keeping you playing, and dying. It's fascinating. I feel abused, but it's something to behold.

I also received it for Christmas and am playing it for the first time. I'm... Kinda meh on it so far. I feel like I'm not finding anything interesting and have just been using the same stuff for hours now

Elden Ring is, funnily enough, the only Soulsborne game I genuinely enjoyed back when I played it. Honestly probably has to do with the fact that the game is open world lol. Absolutely loved every moment (including the rage inducing moments)

Elden Ring to me, felt like what they ultimately wanted to achieve with Dark Souls 2 in terms of world and sense of scope.

Where DS2 feels disjointed with awkward level transitions that don't do a good job of conveying the sense of scope the game really has, Elden Ring succeeds.

I consistently felt like I was rewarded in my exploration and felt like the major dungeons / gauntlets in Elden Ring were incredibly well done.

I have my critiques, it isn't perfect by any means, but it was still an amazing experience. I remember my friends thinking I was bonkers for calling out how awful the STR / Colossal weapon experience was at launch compared to other builds and weapon classes, and then FromSoftware went on to patch all of things I'd basically whinged about. Was a real nice "told ya so" to a bunch of people I knew that felt I was being overly critical at launch lol.

Game to my knowledge is in a good place now in terms of PvE balancing and STR / Colossal weapons are very good too? Haven't replayed it since.

Anyway, long needless monologue, hope you end up enjoying it as much as I did.

I'll give it a fair chance guys - it just looks like those first hours are brutal. I'm terrified of getting jumped, and i grew up in chicago!

It's decent, but easily one of the most overrated games of the last 5 years or so.

I disagree. The amount of freedom you have right out the gate is staggering. And there's something from items, weapons, world bosses and dungeons to find around every corner.

And none of it feels like empty space there for the sake of size like most open worlds usually screw up in that regard. My favorite new game of the year. It and the mass effect trilogy currently are the most fun I've had gaming in a very long time.

So...literally every open world game ever. But yeah, I absolutely loved running through dungeons, caves, mines, and crypts to constantly collect items that are 90% of the time useless to my build. Super fun.

Elden Ring is one of the most densely populated open-world games I've played.

I think maybe you wind up missing a lot of caves, if you didn't cross-reference your map with the interactive one on fextralife's wiki.

But yeah, a lot of the stuff you'll pick up is indeed kinda useless.

I dont find these games fun. At all. Theres no other way to say it.

The scope of it is quite amazing. Having said that, I havent touched it since getting full achievements.

As some one who's played the crap out of ds2 and ds3, seeing the gameplay of elden ring just doesn't give me urge to play it.

Maybe it's the burn out. I dunno.

Takings it's sales and critical acclaim into consideration......no. Lmao. And if you're only interested in a single build for your entire playthrough, with no desire to experiment with new ones or customize become creative with your current I suppose that would be a issue.

But that's more of a you problem.

I'm too busy trying not to get merc'd to look at their names. Last i left off i killed everyone in a camp of solders that led to a cave with online warnings of "lure him out" then got attacked by bow gun's and a giant troll like creature. I don't know how i can over come all that at Lv 10, but get it's the design.

Combat still feels really stiff. I'm unlearning 100s of hours of monster hunter as a go.

It's terrific, and that first time walking out into Limgrave is unparalleled. Wish i could feel that again.

Same, but there's not much incentive to keep playing once you do that. I rarely replay games anyway.

You don't need to. Just ignore and run past them. You don't have to fight anything within a dungeon aside from the boss, unique looking enemy's for special drops, or ones that drop certain gear.

Other then that you're better off just running past everything. This extends to open world as well. Although there are some situations you're want to make a area safe either to find something in peace or reach and open a few chest. However that choice is usually up to you.

That how the game is played. I played an Int build on my first run. Currently playing a second character as a Str/Fai build. Imagine criticizing people for optimizing in a stat-based arpg. Jfc. That also doesn't mean never experimenting or trying different things, so try not to put words in my mouth over something as trivial as video games.

For sure Elden Ring isn't perfect but I don't think that makes it "overrated". I think it deserves all the accolades it gets, tbqh.

lol so one thing about ER, imo, is that it represents the cutoff point for bullshit difficulty. I think, at times, ER goes a tad too far in how hard it makes certain things. There were times I was playing it and I was like, "I'm just happy this is over" vs feeling accomplished.
