I can't really see where they go from here. He's just a calm old man now that wants to avoid battle. All the angst has been resolved, so there's not really much plot left for him.

The only thing I can imagine is a prequel where we find out what he got up to in the time between greece and Norse.

Makes me sad. I don't think an atreus follow up will be even remotely as fun.

yea, I think a prequel would make the most sense.

there's a comic where he spends some time in Egypt after leaving Greece, and I think a game using that storyline has a lot of promise, depending on how it's handled.

I havent played Ragnarok yet, but I plan to as soon as their is a PC release.

Honestly, I'd like a game set after where he gets faced with the future version of Atreus. One where he becomes what Kratos used to be, and has to set out to fix that. Ends with Kratos realizing he became Zeus and Atreus became Kratos (in the sense if Dad isnt always right).

Could be cool. Maybe have a switch towards the end where you take over Atreus and have to fight the Kratos you've been building up the whole game.

I doubt they'll go with a prequel. They tried that with Ascension and we all know how that went. It's always trouble to "reverse" power in a serious for a prequel starring the same character if it isn't a PSP type of situation.

I would expect a full reboot of the character after a while, returning to Greece and maybe handling things differently, but for now Kratos may find some rest.

That being said though I don't think setting a new game/series between GoW3 and GoW2018 really works. It's straight-up firmly established in 2018+Ragnarok that the Norse Gods (and others) knew who Kratos was and what he had done in Greece prior to showing up in Midgard, and I think it'd be fairly dumb to suddenly pivot and say "Well he also did this in between" and literally never have it mentioned or depicted once in the games that are supposed to take place after it.

Maybe just end the story here, at the end.

But if anything I think Egypt is the easiest one to write a sequel to this series for. Their civilization is supposed to be super advanced, and it's stated that their Gods are actually supposed to be like, legitimately nice and adored/revered by the citizens, so it seems pretty easy to just say "Yeah Kratos retired there" and then have him get his ass dragged into a conflict.
